Activities (2017-18)

WORKSHOP FOR COMPETITIVE EXAM PREPARATION

College organised a two-day workshop (August 10 and August 11, 2017) to familiarise the students of post graduate classes with the structure of competitive examination conducted by IBPS. The experts from ETEN undertook a mock test and helped the students make a self-assessment of their skills. Also two special sessions were held for verbal and non-verbal reasoning whereby they were given guidance to enhance their competitive abilities in these areas. Around 150 students from M.Com and BBA attended this workshop.

 

CLEANLINESS RALLY

NSS Unit of the college organized a Cleanliness Rally at the local Ram Bagh Garden on August 12, 2017. Around 30 students along with a few members of the staff took a round of the Garden and picked up the wrappers, used disposal cups etc. thrown around. They also advised the public to use the garbage bins. The students carried banners and posters to make common people aware about the need of cleanliness. The local authority and general public appreciated this initiative by the students.

 

BHOG SEHAJ PATH SRI GURU GRANTH SAHIB JI

As per the tradition the Sehaj Path recitation by the students and the staff goes on regularly in the Gurmat Bhavan of the college throughout the session. Bhog is performed twice: March 1st and September 1st. This year too the day i.e. September 1, 2017 marked Shabad Kirtan, Ardas and Hukamnama recital, all by the students themselves. S. Jagdish Singh, Director congratulated the students and the faculty on the brilliant results for the session 2016-17. Dr. Navdeep Kaur, Principal appreciated the students for diligent labour and wholehearted involvement in all the activities to reap the benefit from the college life. The students who took participation in Gurmat Seva were specially honoured on this occasion.

 

FRESHERS’ DAY

On the occasion of Freshers’ day senior students of post graduate and under graduate classes of the college welcomed the junior students. The day was celebrated at Vidyak Bhavan on September 5, 2017. The program began with the blessings of Almighty. Senior students presented various cultural items through dance, song and play mode. Play “Heer Ranjha” was applauded by one and all. Some of students of 1st semester also presented the song item. A dance on the theme “Save the Girl Child” was also highly appreciated by the audience. Being a teacher’s day, students made the day memorable for the teachers by arranging a number of games; and thanked them for their valuable guidance and support. Director S. Jagdish Singh ji, Sdn. Swaranjit Kaur, members of SSSS Faculty of other sister intuitions also graced the occasion. Principal Dr. Navdeep Kaur congratulated all the students for their efforts to present the program in disciplined way.

 

BOOK DISCUSSION SESSION

A Book discussion session was organized in the college on August 24, 2017. Dr. Ronald Meinardus Regional Director South Asia Friedrich Naumann Foundation who is a renowned journalist and a political commentator was the chief guest. The book titled “What does it mean to be liberal in India” comprises 19 best essays form an Essay Writing contest organized by FNF at National level. Three student authors attended the event and shared their perspectives on liberalism. The talk was followed by a lively interactive question answer session. The event was organized by Mr. Rishi Kochhar, Co-ordinator Amritsar Policy Group. Dr. Navdeep Kaur, Principal and S. Jagdish Singh presented robes of honour as token of gratitude to the authors and Dr. Ronald Meinardus. The team of authors presented copies of the books to student participants in the discussion.

 

WORKSHOP ON ‘RIGHT TO SERVICE ACT’

A workshop on ‘Right to Service Act, 2011’ was conducted to create awareness among students and faculty regarding the provisions of this Act on August 30, 2017. Mrs. Vijay Laxmi, Senior faculty presented a comprehensive view of this Act with special emphasis on the area of “Higher Education Services” covered under this statute. Around 100 students attended this workshop and highly appreciated this initiative to educate them w.r.t this essential legislation for public service.

 

LECTURE ON BUILDING GENERAL AWARENESS

A lecture on building general awareness amongst the students was organized in the college on October 6, 2017. Mr. Vishal Sharma Chief Manager, RMD and his associate Mr. Naresh Kapoor, from BCCL [Bennett, Coleman & Co. Ltd (Times Group)] were the resource persons. He emphasized the importance of reading newspapers specializing in finance and economics. He spoke to students about the life skills and urged them to be self dependent as the life ahead is going to be harsh. He also motivated the students to be aware of the recent happenings at both national and international levels by developing reading habits. Students found the session quite interesting and useful too.

 

WORKSHOP ON HOME DÉCOR

A workshop on home décor, sponsored by Pidilte, was conducted in the college on October 16, 2017. Around 47 students attended the workshop. Ms. Seema Bhandari, from Pidilite, taught students various diya decorating techniques, clay modeling, photo frame decoration etc. The workshop provided a hands-on experience to students to create amazing designs.

 

AD-MAD SHOW

Students of post graduate department of college participated enthusiastically in the ‘Ad-Mad Show’ held on October 17, 2017 in the college hall. The show provided the students platform to show case their talent in the form of role play in the field of advertisement. Fourteen teams each consisting of five to six students were constituted. Each team was evaluated on the basis of creativity and practicality of ideas, presentation skills and the time taken for the completion of the advertisement. The students tried to convince and modify the perception of the audience about the products such as detergent, food stuff, soft drinks, hair oil, internet package, foot-wears and other consumer goods on the basis of price, features, trend, brand loyalty and other reasons using fascinating punch lines like ‘Jiyo Befikar , Jiyo Ji Bhar Ke’, ‘Piyo Yummy Yum, Na Ho Nutrient Cum’, ‘ Want A Shine Try Shine’ , ‘Sambuja Chocalate Jo Rishto Me Laye Mitthas’ and many more. Students endeavour to reach out to consumer and offer them persuasive information was very encouraging and remarkable. Director S.Jagdish Singh Ji appreciated thought provoking ideas and the performance of the students. Dr. Navdeep Kaur, Principal, reminded students for observing the ethics of marketing at all cost in today’s era of cut-throat competition.

 

DIWALI MELA

Diwali Mela was celebrated in the college on October 18, 2017 with full zeal and fervour. The beats of music and colours of rangoli filled the atmosphere with festive spirit. The students danced to the popular numbers. The food stalls offered a variety of snacks and sweets. The students in their colourful attire were seen posing for photos with their friends all over the campus making it a memorable event for their college life.

 

VISIT TO PUNJAB AND SIND BANK

The students of Banking ( Honours ) class visited Punjab and Sind Bank ( SSSS branch) on October 26, 2017. S. Balwinder Singh, Senior Manager explained the various recent Banking concepts and retail banking products in detailed manner. He highlighted the e-banking practices and the related support services offered by the bank. Students learnt the banking operations in an interesting manner and also had a hands on experience of primary banking transactions.

 

WORKSHOP ON IT SKILLS

A workshop was organized in the college for final year students of BCA on October 27, 2017 in the latest technologies – NetBeans and PHP. Mr. Chetan Sikka and Mr. Jatinder from Tech Hive were the resource persons. Students learnt using NetBeans platform to develop a GUI in Java. Mr. Jatinder also demonstrated the deployment of PHP websites on web server, sending messages on Twitter through a website created in PHP etc. On the whole, the session was highly beneficial for all the participants.

 

SEMINAR ON SPSS

One day seminar based on the latest knowledge of SPSS was organized in the college on October 28, 2017. Dr. Dinesh Kumar was the resource person. The purpose of the seminar was to sharpen the statistical and data analysis skills of post graduate students while emphasizing on clarity, interpretation communication and application. The resource person covered all the basics of SPSS features and its varied techniques. The technical session was quite interactive and informative. S. Jagdish Singh, Director and Dr. Navdeep Kaur, Principal presented a replica of Golden Temple as a token of gratitude to Dr. Dinesh Kumar.

 

SEMINAR ON BANKING TRENDS

On the same day i.e. October 28, 2017 another session was held to enlighten the students on “Practical Aspects of Recent Banking Trends”. An alumnus of the college, Mrs. Deepti Aggarwal, Asst. Manager, Punjab & Sind Bank Hall Bazar Branch, Amritsar acted as the resource person. She explained the various new modes of Banking viz. – RTGS, NEFT, Internet Banking, Mobile Banking, Unified payment system, CTS system, KYC, EKYC at length. S. Jagdish Singh, Director and Dr. Navdeep Kaur, Principal presented a replica of Golden Temple as a token of gratitude to Mrs. Deepti Aggarwal.

 

BUSINESS QUIZ

PG Dept. of Commerce and Business Administration of the college organized a Business Quiz on October 30, 2017. Three teams comprising students from B.Com and M.Com took part in the contest covering areas such as Business, Accountancy, Sports and General Awareness. The Audio-Visual round of the quiz was especially found highly interesting by the contestants and the audience alike. Team B comprising Niti (B.Com Sem – III), Lovepreet Kaur (B.Com Sem – III) and Amandeep Kaur (B.Com Sem – V) scored the highest and thus declared the winner.

 

GURPURAB CELEBRATIONS

Students and members of staff of the college celebrated the birth anniversary of fourth Sikh Guru Sri Guru Ramdasji, the founder of Amritsar, with religious fervor and devotion at college campus on November 1, 2017. The students recited the Gurbani and Shabad in praise of the Guru Sahib; and filled whole Campus with the vibrations of hymns. Soulful Poems expressing the love & devotion for the college & Guru Sahib were also recited by the students. S. Jagdish Singh ji, Director, reflected on life, legacy, philosophy and directives of the Guru Sahib and asked sangat to follow virtuous path shown by the Guru. Dr. Navdeep Kaur, Principal, congratulated one and all on this occasion for their benign presence during the celebration. Students of the college performed ‘Langar Sewa’ whole heartedly. The participants and the college Youth Festival group in the function were also honoured on this occasion.

 

VISIT TO LUDHIANA STOCK EXCHANGE

A visit to Ludhiana Stock Exchange was organized for the commerce students. A group of 45 students accompanied by 4 members of the faculty visited Ludhiana Stock Exchange on November 6, 2017. Mr. Atul Chikersal, the officer-in-charge arranged for special lecture by the expert to demonstrate the working of stock exchange. The students learned the intricacies of on-line trading and found the experience interesting and enjoyable too.

 

PRE-PLACEMENT WORKSHOP

A five day Pre-Placement Workshop (November 7 to November 11, 2017) was organized in the college in joint collaboration with Mr. Rohan Mehra, Team Lease Ltd. Around 35 students from post graduate class were selected for training in professional skills during this workshop. Ms. Anisa, a career trainer conducted five sessions covering topics such as resume writing, personal grooming, group discussion, online interviews and personal interviews etc. She also co-ordinated various debate sessions where the students were encouraged to speak on issues concerning their personal choices with respect to career options, right age of marriage, traditional vs. contemporary style of dressing etc. The students’ participation in various activities in this workshop was good. On the whole the workshop served the purpose of opening up the students for a professional life ahead.

 

CAR RALLY  

To mark the mega celebration commemorating the 125th Foundation Day of Sant Singh Sukha Singh Khalsa Educational Institution a Car Rally was organized on Sunday, November 12, 2017. The rally comprising a convoy of 60 cars took a round of the city starting from SSSS Khalsa School. It covered the 20 kilometers stretch touching India Gate on one end and Lahori Gate on the other side, and finally concluded the drive at SSSS College of Commerce for Women, SSSS Chowk.

Members of Managing Committee, staff and a few students participated in this event enthusiastically.The district police provided adequate help for the smooth conduct of the rally.

 

CONVOCATION

Eleventh Convocation ceremony of the college was held on November 16, 2017. A total of 59 master’s degree were awarded to the students of first batch of M.Com. More than 400 students who passed out their three year degree courses in Commerce, Business Administration, Computer Application and Economics received their degrees.

Prof. Dr. Gurmohan Singh Walia Vice-Chancellor, Khalsa University presided over the function. Highlighting the past years achievements by the students and the College Principal Dr. Navdeep Kaur thanked the guests, members of management and students for gracing the occasion. She also highlighted alumni who are well placed in various public & private sector banks, leading colleges & Universities and various multinational companies too. Director S. Jagdish Singh Ji congratulated the students for scaling the heights in their academic march.

Addressing the 11th Convocation of the college the Chief Guest of the event made a passionate appeal to the students to introspect and have courage and strong will power to achieve the set targets of life.

The Managing committee presented a replica of Golden Temple to Prof. Dr. Gurmohan Singh Walia and guest of honour, Prof. Dr. Raghbir Singh, Dean Academic Affairs, Khalsa University and Prof. Dr. Kanwaljit Singh, Dean Sports, Khalsa University. A beautiful cultural programme comprising folk music & dance items from the rich Indian heritage was also presented.

 

SEMINAR ON TRAFFIC RULES

A Seminar was conducted by Amritsar Traffic Police (Education Cell) at the college on December 8, 2017 as per the direction of Sh. S.S Srivastav IPS, Commissioner Police Amritsar. The team led by S. Surinderpal Singh, Marshall and S. Paramjit Singh, Incharge Traffic (Education Wing) informed the students about necessary safety measures and asked them to avoid Over speeding, Under eye driving, Triple riding etc. They also made them aware about the newly enacted “Motor Vehicle Act”. Ms. Jyoti Sharma and Ms. Satinder Kaur, ASI Self Defence discussed the new mobile app “Shakti Punjab Police” and encouraged the students for self defence. Dr. Navdeep Kaur, Principal expressed thankfulness to the Amritsar Traffic Police for this valuable guidance.

 

JUNIOR BUSINESS QUIZ

A business quiz was conducted by the senior secondary wing on January 30, 2018. Four teams comprising three participants each were formed from amongst the top scorers in the preliminary session held on January 9, 2018.

The quiz covered four broad areas viz. Accountancy, Business Studies, Economics and General Awareness. An open round was also kept for the audience which saw over whelming response from all the students. Team D which had Ms. Mansi Chauhan (+2 C3), Ms. Sonalika Vig (+1 C1) and Ms. Nidhi (+2 C4) was declared the winner while Team B comprising Ms. Joypreet Kaur (+2 C3), Ms. Prabhleen Kaur (+2 C3) and Ms. Surbhi (+1 Arts) was runners up.

 

FIRST PRAKASH DIVAS IN THE NEWLY BUILT GURMAT BHAVAN 

A special prayer session was held on February 1, 2018 to mark the inaugural of the renovated Gurmat Bhavan Building. Students and members of the staff recited Japji Sahib and Chaupai Sahib. Path was followed by Shabad Kirtan and Ardas. Speaking on the occasion Director S. Jagdish Singh emphasized the relevance of moral values in the contemporary world and highly appreciated the students and faculty for their zealous participation in the college activities. Dr. Navdeep Kaur, Principal thanked one and all for their respective contribution in Gurmat Bhavan Sewa.

 

SIMPLE SPORTS DAY

Simple sports day was observed on February 3, 2018. A few events which combine physical exercise and a little fun element too like Sack Race, Obstacle Race, Dribbling, Kho-Kho, Blindfold Walk, Carry The Ball, Musical Chair etc. were held. The entire campus was vibrating with zeal and enthusiasm as the players dressed in red and black sports wear made quick and smart moves. Director S. Jagdish Singh and Principal Dr. Navdeep Kaur awarded medals to the winners.

Students were very happy as they got a chance to dance at their favourite music beats at the open dance session after the conclusion of the sports event.

 

STOCK MINDS

A seminar was conducted on February 7, 2018 to apprise the students regarding the intricacies of trading in the stock market. Mr. Rakesh Sharma, an expert from ICICI Securities Ltd. was the resource person. He introduced the concept of virtual trading and deliberated upon the various steps in trading of securities. The entire process with special focus on mutual fund was demonstrated in an effective manner. The session was interactive and useful for all the participants.

 

CAREER COUNSELLING SESSION FOR +2 STUDENTS 

A Career Counselling session was conducted for the students of the junior wing on February 9, 2018. Information regarding various graduate and post graduate courses was provided to the students of Commerce and Humanities stream through PowerPoint presentation. Career options in three streams viz. Commerce, Computer Applications and Economics was presented by Mrs. Priyanka Sharma, Mrs. Ravneet Kaur and Mrs. Isha Arora respectively. The faculty interacted with the students and answered their queries related to various career options they wanted to pursue. On the whole, the session was highly useful for all the participants.

 

PARENTS – TEACHERS MEETING

Parents-Teachers Meeting was held in the college on February 11, 2018 to make the parents of the students aware about the courses available for the students after +2. S. Jagdish Singh, M. Director welcomed the parents. In his address, he spoke about the moral values, culture and the role of parents in facilitating decision of their child about the future. Dr. Navdeep Kaur, Principal highlighted the various courses available in the college and the professional career the students can pursue after doing these courses. The panel of experts from the college faculty provided personal counselling too, to the interested students and parents.

 

STREET PLAY 

‘Wehangi’ – A play on the theme of student and teacher relationship was staged by a team of actors from Dept. of Theatre, Punjabi University, Patiala in the college campus on February 19, 2018. The powerful performances of all the three members enthralled the entire audience. The actors received standing ovation by the students and faculty of the college at the end. The entire team was honoured by the college authorities for their great efforts.

 

200th BIRTH ANNIVERSARY OF SATGUR S. RAM SINGH NAMDHARI 

A special lecture was organized in the college on February 22, 2018 to commemorate the 200th birth anniversary of Satgur S.Ram Singh Namdhari. Dr. Joginder Singh, Director Bhai Vir Singh Sewa Sadan Amritsar elaborated the reforms made by Bhai Ram Singh who had been the founder of Kooka Movement. He highlighted the revolutionary steps initiated by Bhai Ram Singh to protect the rights of women in 19th century. S. Jagdish Singh, M.Director motivated the students to keep themselves aware of their rich heritage and culture.
Dr. Navdeep Kaur, Principal while presenting the vote of thanks urged the students to strengthen themselves with the power of knowledge and morality to bring positive changes in the society.
Dr. Joginder Singh was presented with a replica of Sri Darbar sahib as a token of gratitude by the college authorities.

 

IMINDZ

The Post Graduate Dept. of Commerce organized an event ‘iMindz’ on February 26, 2018 to hone the creative skills and confidence of the students. The programme comprised a variety of events viz. Corporate Walk, ad-Selfies, Turn the Coat – extempore and skits. The students dressed up as corporate executives walked smoothly and showcased their abilities as budding professionals. A special item ‘Poke the fun’ was meant to entertain the audience with a fun-quiz. The students found this event very interesting and enjoyable.

 

PLACEMENT DRIVE

Around 120 students attended the Placement Drive held at GNDU on March 6, 2018 and 20 students were selected for the various posts in the field of IT, Banking etc.  by Rubicon Pvt. Ltd.

 

SEMINAR ON WOMEN EMPOWERMENT’

A seminar was conducted on the topic ‘Women Empowerment’ on March 8, 2018. Ms. Navneet Kaur and Ms. Ramandeep Kaur, social workers provided information to the students regarding their Special Cell for Women. Ms. Navneet Kaur apprised the students about the theme of International Women’s Day ‘Press for Progress’, government schemes for menstrual hygiene and sexual harassment. She also talked about Domestic Violence Act, 2005 and Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace Act 2013, and urged the students to raise their voice to end the violence against women.

 

SANJH 2018

More than 100 alumnae across various batches attended, the 3rd Alumni Meet titled ‘Sanjh’ held on March 11, 2018 in the college auditorium Vidyak Bhavan. The meet was dedicated to the 125th foundation anniversary of SSSS institutions established in 1993 and 25th anniversary of the SSSS College of Commerce for Women established in 1993. The atmosphere was nostalgic. The occasion saw the alumni thanking their alma mater while many current students interacted with their alumnus to learn from their experiences. Speaking on the occasion college Principal Dr. Navdeep Kaur underlined and praised the admirable achievements of the students of SSSS College. Director S. Jagdish Singh Ji proudly acclaimed that the students of the college are making family SSSS proud by their achievements. Principal Mrs. Rama Mahajan of Ajit Vidhyalaya was honoured and Mrs. Vinodita Sankhyan Principal of Shri Ram Ashram School was also honoured. However the members of her staff received the honour on her behalf. SSSSian alumni and the star achievers were honoured by the Director and Principal in the presence of members of Management, the parents of the students and guests from different SSSS institutions. A cultural programme of folk songs and dances, Gidha and an act related to the growth and progress of SSSS institutions were the attractions of the event.

Principal emphasized the need of connectivity between the alumni and the college for the mutual growth and goodwill. Mrs. Ravneet Arora presented vote of thanks to all present on the occasion.

The book ‘Shapers and Sharpeners’ written by Director S. Jagdish Singh Ji was released by Sardarni Swaran Kaur, Dr. Manpreet Kaur, Dr. Harpreet Kaur, S. Brahmjeet Singh. Students of Buds Charm performed choreography.

OATH TAKING CEREMONY 

An oath taking ceremony against the use of drugs was held in the college on Youth Empowerment Day on March 23, 2018.  Students took pledge to create adequate social awareness about severe consequences of drug abuse and addiction to save people from ruining their health.

 

 ‘MONEY MATTERS’ – ECONOMICS QUIZ

Department of Economics organized an Economics Quiz titled ‘Money Matters’ on April 6, 2018. Earlier preliminary round was conducted for the same on February 16, 2018. Around 184 students participated in it and three teams comprising three students each were selected for the final quiz. The quiz comprised of five rounds viz.  Economics, Statistics, Current Affairs, Infotainment and Audio/Visual. Team A comprising Supriya Sharma (B.Com Sem-VI), Harpreet Kaur (B.Sc(Eco) Sem-IV) and Jaismeen Kaur (BBA Sem-IV) were declared winners.

 

CAREER COUNSELLING SESSION FOR FINAL YEAR STUDENTS

Special Career Counselling Session was organized on the same day i.e. April 6, 2018 for the final year students of B.Com and B.Sc(Eco). Mrs. Ravneet Kaur from Dept. of Economics made a presentation a highlighting various competitive exams such as SSC, UPSC, IBPS etc. Students found the session highly informative and useful.

 

YOUTH DAY

Youth Day was celebrated on April 7, 2018 for undergraduate students of the college. On this day Declamation Contest was organized by ‘Spark’ – the Speakers’ Forum. The students participated enthusiastically and presented their views on different contemporary topics like Youth and Morality, Judicious Use of Mobile Phones, Craze among Youth for the Foreign Land. Mehak of B.Com Sem-IV stood first. Cash prizes were given to the winners. Dr. Navdeep Kaur, Principal appreciated the participants for their oratory skills. She encouraged all the students to have the courage and initiative to take the stage and present ideas influentially. In her address she emphasized on following the values and ethics in letter and spirit.

 

TECH FEST 2018

Tech-Fest 2018 – the annual event of Dept. of Computer Science was organized in the college on April 09, 2018. It comprises of various off-stage and on-stage events. The lab based events viz. Bug Hunting and Logic Whirlpool were held on Match 31, 2018 where around 50 students participated. In Poster Making and Slogan Writing, participants displayed their ideas on IT using colours. The on-stage events included Paper Presentation, IT Drama and System Assemble. The students gave PowerPoint presentations on varied topics like Brain Fingerprinting, Internet Trolling, Captcha etc. The IT-based dramas were enjoyed one and all. System Assemble contest tested the students’ know-how regarding hardware components of PC.

On the whole, the entire event was found highly enriching by one and all.

Seminar on Colon Cancer

A team of eminent doctors led by Dr. Gurbilas Pannu visited the college as a part of the awareness programme organized by Fortis Hospital, Amritsar on April 11, 2018. A 20-minute duration documentary titled ‘Colon Cancer’ – An awareness initiative’ was shown to the students in order to educate them about the early symptoms of this disease. After the screening of the documentary a question answer session was also held. Dr. Amitabh Mohan Jairath and Dr. Ravindra S. Malhotra handled the queries put up by the students and Dr. Gurbilas Pannu acknowledged the good response by the college authorities and the audience towards this awareness programme.

 

Seminar on ‘Career as Company Secretary’

A career counselling seminar on ‘Company Secretary – as a career option’ was organised on April 16, 2018 by the college for the final year students of B.Com and BBA. Mr. Manish, Manager of Amritsar Chapter of Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) and Ms. Kanika, a Company Secretary(CS) acquainted the students with the various aspects of Company Secretary like the eligibility criteria, course-structure, subjects offered and fee structure along with various job opportunities available after completing the course of CS from ICSI. The students found the seminar very informative.

 

Workshop on Tally ERP 9.0

A Workshop on Tally ERP 9.0 and incorporation of Goods and Service Tax (GST) in Tally was organized in the college from February 15, 2018 to April 16, 2018. It was a thirty hours workshop spread over thirty days. A qualified Chartered Accountant, Mr. Gurasees Singh, was the resource person. Students were given theoretical as well as practical knowledge about Tally ERP 9.0, manner of application for GST number for various assesses, online GST return filing, linking of Aadhaar card number with PAN card etc. Students were also given an overview of accounting software BUSY.
This workshop added to the knowledge of the students and made them well versed with the intricacies of a complicated issue ‘GST’.

 

SSSSian Fiesta

SSSSian Fiesta was celebrated on April 24, 2018. Besides the usual music and dance items a special award ceremony was held to honour the participants of the various cultural and co-curricular events held in the college and at inter-college contest as well. Dr. Navdeep Kaur, Principal highlighted the outstanding performance of the students in various art/cultural/literary events. S. Jagdish Singh, Director highly applauded the contribution of the faculty in the all round development of the students. He informed the audience about the various projects and special events chalked out to be held during the 125th year of SSSS group of schools and colleges. Around 150 students were awarded with trophies/certificates and prizes recognizing their performances in various activities and events.

Seminar on Self Defence

A seminar was held on the importance of Self Defence in the college on April 28, 2018. Sub Inspector Navpreet Kaur Punjab Police(Women Cell) demonstrated the skills of self defence and motivated the students to get trained for the important life skill. Her associates taught the basic techniques and also held an interactive session with the girl students.

SSSS Foundation Day Celebrations

Sant Singh Sukha Singh Khalsa group of schools and colleges celebrated the completion of 125 glorious years of service to the society on May 13, 2018. A group of 50 members comprising students, teachers, Principals and members of the managing committee paid obeisance at Sri Darbar Sahib in the early morning hours.

Thereafter a function was held in Mata Kaulan Marg Campus of the institution wherein the students of all SSSS schools and colleges participated in Shabad Kirtan Samagam.

The programme started with a soulful performance by the little students of primary wing, “Invocation to SSSSian Mother”.  A historiography presenting the history of 125 years of SSSS was also presented on this occasion.

Dr. Nirmaljit Singh Kalsi, Chief Secretary, Deptt. of Home Affairs, Govt. of Punjab was the Chief Guest. Dr. Kalsi made a presentation highlighting the innovations made by information technology. He emphasized the need to educate the young children to build their creative and analytical skills and the relevance of value based education all the more in the years to come.

SSSS award was presented to the following eminent persons:-

Mrs. Arvinder Kaur, Dr. Roop Singh, Er. Kanwaljit Singh Bhatia, S. Jagjit Singh Walia, ADCP, Dr. Padampreet Singh, Er. Jatinder Singh. Dr. Nirmaljit Singh Kalsi was also honoured by the Managing committee.                    

S. Jagdish Singh Director highlighted the progress made by the institution in the past 125 years and motivated the students to carry on the legacy of glorious achievements in the times to come.

Gurpreet Singh, Mrs. Gurinder Suri, Mrs. Arvinder Kaur were also present on the occasion.

A book titled “Our Heritage: A Reflection on Global Religions” was also released on this occasion.

The event was coordinated by Dr Navdeep Kaur, Principal, SSSS College of Commerce for Women and her team.

 

WORKSHOP ON “FINDING WOMEN’S VOICES”

A three day workshop was organized in the College on “Finding Women’s Voices” starting from May 30, 2018. Ms. Kathleen Mulligan, Associate Professor of Voice and Speech, Ithaca College, University of New York was the resource person. Dr. Payal the coordinator informed that in total 30 participants attended this workshop and learnt the various techniques for effective speech and confidence building.

Dr. Manpreet Kaur, Principal, Khalsa College for Women was the Chief Guest for the closing session of the workshop. She spoke about the relevance of such workshops for the development of professional skills and career building.S. Jagdish Singh, Director and Dr. Navdeep Kaur Principal honoured Dr. Manpreet Kaur and Ms. Kathleen Mulligan. Ms. Harleen Kaur, Asst. Professor presented the vote of thanks.

 

INTERNATIONAL YOGA DAY

Yoga Divas Being Observed in the Commerce College on June 21, 2018 where 50 participants practised various Asanas and also learnt about their health benefits.

 

INTERNATIONAL DAY AGAINST DRUG ABUSE AND ILLICIT TRAFFICKING

International Day was celebrated in College on 26 June 2018 at ‘Lafani’ in which students was informed about side effects of drugs and also about how to prevent form it.

An inter-college tech fest ‘Techno Utsav’ was organized by Amritsar Engineering and Technology on February 17, 2017. It comprised of various events such as Catch The Bug, Ad-Mad Show, Rangoli, Extempore, Poster Presentation, Group Dance etc. Simran Kaur of M.Com Sem-I won the first prize in Poster Presentation contest.

 

INTER-COLLEGE BUSINESS QUIZ

An inter-college business quiz was organised by ‘Economic Times’ at Amritsar College of Engineering & Technology on April 5, 2017. Four teams comprising of 2 students each participated and the team constituting Khushboo Joshi and Sonika Silly from B.Com Sem-VI won the first prize. They were awarded with a cash prize of `5000 and a winning trophy.
