Talent Show (Majlis) (August 01, 2022)

A three-day talent show “Majlis” was held from August 1, 2022, to August 3, 2022. The first two sessions comprised performances by the students of the Commerce stream and the third season was dedicated to the participants from humanities.The students exhibited immense talent in singing, dancing, and acting. Ms. Kiran Bala and Ms. Harpreet Kaur coordinated the event and urged the students to appreciate art, culture, literature, and the beauty of nature to live joyously.

Members of the faculty highly appreciated the participants and were happy to witness the zeal and excitement amongst the students.

Company Secretary as a Career (August 10, 2022)

SSSS College of Commerce for Women Amritsar organized a seminar on ‘Company Secretary as a Career ‘ on August 10, 2022, in the College Hall Rose Villa. The resource persons Ms.Rubina Mahajan, practicing CS, Ms. Rani Rajzada, Officer Incharge,ICSI, Amritsar,Ms. Rohini Chouhan, Accounts Manager, FCI talked in detail about the Company Secretary (CS) Course, and the role, and responsibilities of CS. During the interactive session, the resource persons emphasized the clarity of vision for achieving the target. They talked about the procedure and process for enrolling and completing the course. About 165 students of first semester of BBA, BCom, and BCom (FS) attended the session.The event coordinated by Dr Payal was rated as informative by the faculty and students. Mrs Monika,Ms Devika, Mrs Ashmit Kaur, Ms Ramya,Mrs. Karishma, and Mrs. Vijaylaxmi were also present. The resource persons and other members from ICSI were honoured by the Principal, Dr Navdeep Kaur.

75th Independence Day ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav (August 12, 2022)

75th Independence Day ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ was observed by the NSS Unit of SSSS College of Commerce for Women on August 12, 2022. To mark the celebration a series of activities viz. Poster Making, Slogan Writing, and Selfie with Tiranga were organized.  The whole campus was immersed in patriotic spirit and passion. Students decorated their classrooms with Tri-Color balloons, Rangoli, and Flags. The students and staff were attired in white, orange and green color and wore bangles and badges of the tri color.  Patriotic songs were played to pay tribute to freedom fighters. Principal Dr. Navdeep Kaur visited the class rooms and lauded the students for their enthusiasm and zeal.

Ms Harpreet Kaur Uppal, Mrs Dilpreet Kaur and Ms Mamta Arora were the coordinators and Mrs. Priyanka Sharma, Dr. Tina Vohra, Mrs. Karishma, and Dr. Baljinder Kaur, and Dr. Samriti were also present on the occasion.

SSSSian Fiesta (August 13, 2022)

SSSS College of Commerce Amritsar organized SSSSian Fiesta on August 13, 2022, at Vidyak Bhavan- the auditorium at the extension campus. As a part of the event, a Prize distribution ceremony was conducted to give away certificates and trophies to the students who participated in various extra and co-curricular activities.

College Theatre Group ‘Niralam’ staged an act “Kehrra Drama “A satire on the pretentous way of living. 

Sh. Kewal Dhaliwal, a Punjabi playwright, theater director, and President of Punjab Sangeet Natak Akademi Chandigarh was the Guest of Honour. 

While addressing the audience when the country is celebrating Ajadi Ka Amrit Mahoutsav- 75th years of independence, he talked about the peace and harmony required for sustaining freedom. 

He congratulated the prize winners and highly appreciated the work ethic and discipline of College.

He lauded the “Niralam “team for their performance and offered to hold a week long theatre festival at the Vidyak Bhavan.

Dr. Navdeep Kaur, Principal talked about the relevance of Theatre for conveying messages to the masses addressing the social issues and how College is utilizing performing arts for raising the awareness level of young women.

A replica of Sri Darbar Sahib was presented as a token of gratitude to the Chief Guest.

Farewell 

During this event, a programme to bid a warm farewell to the outgoing post-graduate and graduate students was also organised.

Exciting games, puzzles, dances, songs etc. were arranged by the students of first-year and second-year classes to make the day exciting and memorable for their seniors. The students attired in simple yet graceful traditional as well as modern outfits adorned the stage during the modeling round.

Mega Placement Drive (August 17, 2022)

SSSS College of Commerce for Women, Amritsar organized ‘Mega Placement Drive’ in collaboration with the District Bureau of Employment & Enterprises, Amritsar (August 17, 2022).

Placement Cell of SSSS College of Commerce for Women, Amritsar organized ‘Mega Placement Drive’ in collaboration with the District Bureau of Employment & Enterprises, Amritsar   on August 17, 2022 under the able guidance of Director S. Jagdish Singh Ji and Principal Dr. Navdeep Kaur. 387 graduate and post-graduate students participated in the campus interview drive. 93 students were shortlisted and 39 students were selected by the Companies. 21 Companies including Kochar-tech, SBI Card, HDFC-Life, SBI Life, NIIT, Aryan Hundai, Maxicus, Edelweiss, ICICI Bank, ADMONZ, Flipkart, AGILE, Pukhraj, PNB Metlife, Webberz, Care Health Insurance, BYJUS participated in this camp and expressed their willingness for further association with the College for placements. District Bureau of Employment & Enterprises, Amritsar team comprising of Gaurav Kumar (District Career Counselor), Deepak Bhalla (Deputy CEO) and Jatinder Singh(Senior Assistant) expressed their satisfaction with the smooth conduct of the event and highly appreciated the College for effective event management.

Principal Dr. Navdeep Kaur expressed their gratitude to the members of the recruitment team of the District Bureau of Employment & Enterprises, Amritsar for the successful conduct of this campus drive and quoted the relevance of such programmes for boosting the confidence of students and preparing the students for professional life.

She congratulated the shortlisted students, and appreciated the efforts of the placement cell and coordinators Mrs.Jaskiranjit Kaur, Dr. Payal and Mrs. Ravneet Arora for the successful accomplishment of this event.

Personal Contact Program (PCP) (August 25 to August 27, 2022)

To build a bond of trust and assurance among newly admitted students for the session 2022-23, Personal Contact Programme (PCP) was conducted from August 25 to August 27, 2022 for the first year students of all the courses.   A panel of experts comprising two members met each student individually and information of each student pertaining to her educational and family background as well as her interest and aptitude, career aspirations, challenges in pursuing the studies etc. was noted so that suitable programmes for their growth and development can be organized during the session. This program is held every year for the new students in order to develop a learning milieu and environment where students can freely share their academic concerns and aspirations with their teachers and move steadily for holistic personal growth.

ROTARACT CLUB OF SSSS COLLEGE OF COMMERCE FOR WOMEN FELICITATED CEREMONY

The Rotaract District 3070 at a function felicitated the College Rotaract Unit President Ms. Sukhpinder Kaur. Three awards were given away viz. Outstanding Charter Club of the year (Silver) (Institution Based), Club with Maximum members (Membership Growth) and the First Club to pay District Dues during the award ceremony ‘NEEV’ organized on 28th August, 2022 at Hotel regent Park, Jalandhar.

Bhog Sehaj Path Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji: 29th Foundation Day (September 01, 2022)

The 29th foundation day of SSSS College of Commerce, Amritsar was celebrated with religious fervour and enthusiasm in the College on Thursday, September 1, 2022. The Bhog Sehaj Path was performed on this occasion.  Soulful Hymns from Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji were sung and Ardas was intoned. S. Jagdish Singh ji, Hony.Secy. Heads and faculty members of SSSS institutions and members of the students’ council were present on this occasion. Dr. Navdeep Kaur, Principal, congratulated the students and the staff for continuing the legacy of maintaining the Gurmat Traditions of the College. S. Satinder Singh, S. Gurpreet Singh, Mrs. Arvinder Kaur, Mrs. Savita Khanna, Dr. Gur Rattan Singh, and Mrs. Jaswinder Kaur were also present on this occasion. 

The Expressionist Programme (Level- Foundation course in Personality Development) (Sept01-Sept 03, 2022)

SSSS College of Commerce for Women, Amritsar organized a three day Personality Development Course titled “The Expressionist’ from September 1, 2022, to September 3, 2022 in collaboration with the organisation ‘Mind Cropper’. Dr. Gaurav Deora and Dr. Anupam Bhanot were the resource persons. The theme of the workshop was to inspire the students for following the science of small for solving big challenges, overcoming the barriers of life and making the mind free. This Level 1 Foundation Programme covered the following domains:

  • Art of Self Talk
  • Verbal and non-verbal Communications
  • Art of Expression
  • Preparing and focusing the mind
  • Power of imagination and visualization
  • Power of visuals and sounds

Through various learning activities, stories, case studies, drills, and audio-visual clips of the relevant learning modules, the students got opportunities to learn new things in a lucid and interactive manner. Eighty-one students of 1st and 3rd semesters of graduate and post-graduate classes participated enthusiastically during these interactive sessions. The overall response of the students was very encouraging.

The program was coordinated successfully by Dr. Samriti Kapoor and Mrs. Kanika Thukral under the able guidance of worthy Principal Dr Navdeep Kaur.

Mrs Jaskiranjit Kaur, Mrs Priyanka Sharma, Mrs Harpreet Kaur, Dr. Moninder Kaur, Dr. Tina Vohra, Ms. Maninder Kaur and   Mrs Vijay Laxmi attended the workshop.

Faculty Development Programme (September 5, 2022)

SSSS College of Commerce for Women, Amritsar, organized a Faculty Development Programme on September 5, 2022, on the occasion of Teacher’s Day, the birth anniversary of a reformer, a great teacher and educationist Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishan under the able guidance of Principal Dr. Navdeep Kaur.  Ms. Harpreet Kaur, Assistant Professor in Punjabi introduced the resource person Ms. Kiran Bala, Assistant Professor in Punjabi. The resource person shared her views on the theme ‘Is the seeker dead?’ As per the resource person, the whole universe is a teacher provided one intends to learn as a true learner. While differentiating the purpose of life of man from the other living creatures of the universe, the resource person emphasized understanding the purpose of human life. Citing various examples she suggested following the approach of dialogue, art of questioning, relying on authentic sources of information, meditation, and concentration for discovering the self and seeking the truth. One can learn only when the learner considers the self and mind as a blank slate. In the end, the queries and discussion were also held. Mrs. Jaskiranjit Kaur, HOD Commerce, and Business studies, thanked the resource person for conducting the thought-provoking session successfully.

Career Counselling Session on Professional Course Chartered Accountancy (September 5, 2022)

A Career Counselling Session on the top Professional Course “Chartered Accountancy” was organized in College on September 15, 2022. Dr. Samriti Kapoor, introduced the resource person Ms. Shilpa Gupta, C.A., and extended a warm welcome to her.CA Ms. Shilpa Gupta who is an alumnus of the college informed the students about the course content of CA, its scheme, and how one can pursue the course alongside the degree course. 220 students attended the seminar and gained an insightful view of this highly popular career option. Mrs. Monica Chhabra presented the vote of thanks and Mrs. Jaskiranjit Kaur coordinated the proceedings of the event.

Workshop on Self Grooming (September 17, 2022)

A workshop on self-grooming was organized on Sept 17, 2022 in the College Ms Radha Khanna, an alumna and Professional Makeup artist, conducted the workshop in two sessions to introduce the students to the basic skills of applying make-up with hints and tips for making the most of their facial features.

In the first session, the resource person shared her career journey with the students. She further emphasized on taking proper diet for the enhancement of natural beauty. She also threw insights on proper skin care routine & discussed the steps of prepping & priming as well.

Steps to apply fine makeup were demonstrated using various techniques in the afternoon session. Towards the end, a short question- answer round were also conducted to test the learnings of the participants from the workshop & were rewarded for their correct answer.

A token of gratitude was presented to Ms. Radha Khanna was honoured by Principal Dr. Navdeep Kaur.

The coordinators of the event Mrs Jaskiranjit Kaur and Dr.Samriti Kapoor extended a vote of thanks.

The workshop was attended by 50 participants with full zeal and interest.

First Assembly of the Session 2022-23 (September 19, 2022 and September 20, 2022)

On September 19-20, 2022 the first assembly for the session 2022-23 was held in the Rose Villa Hall. The students recited Mool Mantra and College Shabad. Ardas was intoned to seek the blessing of God. Dr. Navdeep Kaur, the Principal welcomed the students into the new session and spoke about the relevance of discipline in life. She also familiarized the students with College Website and apprised them of the code of conduct to be followed in the College. The students were also sensitized about cyber security and current issues being faced due to the excessive use of social media .The students were also informed about various opportunities the college will provide to nurture their talent.

Installation Ceremony of the Rotaract Club (September 24, 2022)

The Second Installation Ceremony of Rotaract Club of SSSS College of Commerce for Women, Amritsar was held in the College Hall Rose Villa on Saturday, September 24, 2022.

The ceremony began with the singing of the National Anthem. 

DRR. Rtn./Rtr. Rohit Jindal was the Chief Guest, DRCC Rtn. Dalbir Singh Makkar was the Guest of Honour and Vice DRR Rtr. Adv. Ashish Arora was the special guest. Rtn. Parveen Mehra, President, Rtn Deepak Shoor, Secy and other members of the Rotary club Amritsar Central were also present on the occasion. The Distinguished dignitaries were welcomed by the officer bearers of the Rotaract Club of SSSS College of Commerce for Women with floral accords. 

Ms. Cavery Mahajan, student of B.Com Sem III was appointed Student President and accorded ceremonial Collar and Charter of the Club. Ms Mehakleen Kaur, student of B.Com (FS) Sem V was appointed as the Student Secretary and other ten office bearers received pins indicating their respective positions in the club. Certificates and Medals were presented to the members of Rotaract Club of SSSS College of Commerce for Women for the year 2021-22.The meritorious students of the college were also honoured.

The Chief Guest congratulated the rotaractors for being the only all women club (institutional based) in entire South Asia. He focused on a quote by Mahatma Gandhi i.e. “Be the Change you want to see in the world”.

The Guest of Honour appreciated the rotaractors for the work done by them. He emphasized on the fact that a small help can lead to great happiness.

Dr. Navdeep Kaur, the Principal of the college motivated the students to achieve higher goals with their will power and determination. She also mentioned about an initiative “We share We Care” being carried out in the college to help the students economically. She presented the token of gratitude to the Chief Guest, Guest of the day and other dignitaries and the vote of thanks. 

The program was coordinated successfully by Dr. Tina Vohra, Ms. Deepjot Kaur and Ms. Karanpreet Kaur under the able guidance of the worthy Principal.

40 hrs. Employability Skills by Mahindra Pride Classroom (September 19, 2022 and September 26, 2022)

SSSS College of Commerce for Women in collaboration with Naandi Foundation (An initiative by Tech Mahindra ) organized the Mahindra Pride Classroom from September 19 to September 26, 2022. Under the programme, a 40-Hours course on Employability Skill was conducted for the final year students of BCA and B.Sc(Eco). Mr. Ramparvesh Singh, a trainer in soft skills and personality development was the resource person. During the course spread over 7 days, the resource person imparted lessons that would boost the employability skills of the students.

The mode of teaching for all the sessions comprised lectures, videos and presentations as well.  Everyday students participated in various activities to test their learnings. On the final day of the course completion, a recap of activities was presented by students in the form of report writing,

Dr. Navdeep Kaur, Principal, in her address during the valedictory ceremony, emphasized on finding one’s unique ability and transform it into their passion and then pursue it as a career. Further she asked the participants to make consistent efforts to build the skills learnt in the course so that these become an integral part of their lives.

Towards the end, a token of gratitude was presented to the resource person by Principal Dr. Navdeep Kaur and Mrs. Pooja Monga and Mrs. Monika Shahi, Coordinators of the event.

The students found the course highly useful as it raised their awareness and paved way for self-development.

NSS Unit (September 27, 2022)

The NSS Unit of SSSS College of Commerce organized a function to commemorate NSS day on September 27, 2022.  Ms. Jahnvi Khosla, BCom Semester III made a power point presentation on NSS Day highlighting the relevance, aim and various activities performed by the NSS Unit of College 2021-22. The students of first and third semester presented ‘Nukad Natak’ on the theme ‘Cleanliness’. Ms. Taranpreet Kaur, a student of 3rd semester presented her self-composed poetry ‘Punjab Di Mitti’ describing various social issues. Principal Dr. Navdeep Kaur addressed the students and encouraged them to devote themselves fully for the accomplishment of task assigned to them.  Ms. Kiran Bala (Asst. Prof. in Punjabi) shared her views and guided the students to be healthy mentally & spiritually so that they can contribute for the welfare of society. The function ended with the ‘Vote of Thanks’ presented by Ms. Bhavika BCom Sem III. 

115th Birth Anniversary of Shaheed Bhagat Singh (September 28, 2022)

SSSS College of Commerce for Women celebrated 115th Birth Anniversary of freedom fighter- Shaheed Bhagat Singh on September 28, 2022. A paper titled ‘Jinda Main Aazad Majnu’. Bhagat Singh which depicted the level of internal liberation that Bhagat Singh lived with while he was in the 4-walls of prison. A drama title ‘Bhagat Singh Tere Te Ilzaam Hai’ was also staged which portrayed Bhagat Singh’s words of advocacy against allegations put on his ideologies by the authorities.

Students of B.Com -V, B.Sc. Sem-III and BCA Sem-V attended the event and were motivated to live their lives with enthusiasm, grace and dignity as Bhagat Singh lived.

iMINDZ -Vision, Creation & Innovation ( September 29, 2022)

The Post-graduate Department of Commerce and Business Administration of SSSS College of Commerce for Women, Amritsar organized a special event ‘I-Mindz-Vision, Creation & Innovation’ on September 29, 2022 at Rose Villa Hall of the College. The event comprised various contests like Business Idea, Ad-Mad Show, and Role Play for enabling the participants to explore their creative and innovative ideas and abilities in the context of business management. The event commenced with the blessings of Almighty. Ms. DavinderDeep Kaur, Service Officer, Indigo Airlines and alumna of the College, Ms. Ramya, Assistant Professor in Commerce and Ms. Varsha Arora, Assistant professor in Economics in the College were the judges for the day. About 225 students of Semester V of B.Com V, BBA, B.Com (FS) and M.Com attended the programme.

Students presented the choreography, songs and theatrical items. Students shared startup Ideas like Meals on Demands, US2.0 for Our Better Future, and Avenir. Students performed on themes pertaining to moral values and those depicting the social issues like Gender Inequality, Drugs, Frauds pertaining to Business and Job Opportunities, influence of Social Media. Students used fascinating punch lines like- Fair Wooden Comb for Long Hair, Energy Ka Double Dose- Best Juice for promoting the products.

 S.Jagdish Singh, Honorary Secretary, congratulated the students for their performances and appreciated the opportunities the College offers for the overall development of its students While addressing the audience, Principal Dr. Navdeep Kaur said that students participation on such a platform inspires the students to explore business opportunities on their own, to have an innovative idea and ways of addressing the issues and problems that an individual may face in the society. She highlighted the relevance of individual attention, dedication and focused involvement for the success of the individual in any field.  The students who attended the event ‘The Expressionists’ were specially recognized and were awarded the certificates on this occasion. The token of gratitude was presented to the judges also. M.Com students Ms Yukta, Ms Karwal Muskan, Ms Nisha and Ms Simran shared the responsibility of planning and executing the whole event under the guidance of Dr. Payal Nanda and Dr. Samriti Kapoor.

Declamation and Debate Competition organized by Spark Committee (Sept 30, 2022)

The spark and speaker’s committee of the college organized a declamation and debate contest on September 30, 2022 to mark the ‘World Nutrition Week’. A total of fourteen students from various courses participated and exhibited their oratory skills by speaking or various topics associated with health and nutrition. Dr. Baljinder Kaur (Asst. Prof. in Punjabi), Ms. Kiran Bala (Asst. Prof. in Punjabi) and Mrs. Rupinder Kaur (Asst. Prof. in Environmental Science) were the judges for the event. Principal Dr. Navdeep Kaur addressed the students and motivated them to be particular about their dietary choices. Ritika (B. Com – I) bagged the first position, Pavleen (B.Com-III) got the second position and Pavneet (B.Com-III) won the third prize. Prize of appreciation was also accorded to Samridhi (BCA-III) and Bhavika (B.Com-III). The participants delivered their speeches with keen enthusiasm and perfection.

Celebration of ‘Non Violence Day’ (October 03, 2022)

The NSS Unit of SSSS College of Commerce for Women celebrated ‘Non Violence Day’ on the birth anniversary of Sh. Mahatma Gandhi Ji on October 03, 2022. Documentary on ‘Mahatma Gandhi Ji and his contributions towards India’ was shown to the students at the start of the event. Teachings of GandhiJi were elucidated in the documentary. This was followed by group discussion on the theme ‘Non Violence’. The queries and concerns raised by the students with respect to aggressive behaviour witnessed in everyday life were addressed. Mrs. Dilpreet Kaur and Ms. Mamta Arora from the Department of Commerce coordinated the event.

Cyber Security Awareness Day (October 06, 2022)

SSSS College of Commerce for Women Amritsar observed Cyber Security Awareness Day on Thursday, October 6, 2022 in the College Hall, Rose Villa. Students of various courses attended the programme. Through the powerpoint presentation students were made aware about the nature, threats involved and preventive measures of cybercrime. Presentation also included different incidents that involved cybercrime. The resource persons Mrs. Pooja Monga, HOD Computer Department and Mrs. Monika Shahi, Assistant Professor in Computer informed how to keep the data safe by taking preventive measures. They emphasized personal accountability and stressed the importance of taking proactive steps to enhance cyber security at home and in the workplace.

Webinar on Menstrual Health and Hygiene (October 07, 2022)

An interactive session on Menstrual Health and Hygiene was organized at SSSS College of Commerce for Women, Amritsar in virtual mode on 7th October, 2022. Mrs Nitya Chaudhary, a specialist in social work, working with the CSR team of Unicharm India was the speaker of the day. The speaker made the students aware about the various concepts related tohormonal changes, female reproductive system, menstrual cycle, menstrual abnormalities, menstrual management, yoga poses to be done to get relief from menstrual cramps. She also spoke about the right way of using and disposing of sanitary napkins. Further, she explained the various emotional and behavioural changes as well as the myths and taboos associated with menstruation and emphasized upon the importance of healthy eating. Dr. Navdeep Kaur, Principal highly appreciated Mrs. Nitya for an informative and educative session and motivated the students to adopt a healthy lifestyle. The session was coordinated by Dr. Tina Vohra (Assistant Professor in Commerce) and Ms. Kawaljit Kaur (Assistant Professor in Computer Science).

Book Bank Fair (October 14, 2022)

In order to strengthen the value of sharing amongst the students, the College organized a ‘Book Bank Fair’ on Oct 14, 2022 under the project ‘Saugaat-The Book Bank Scheme’.

The students and the members of the staff were invited to contribute books from their collection and take equal number of books of their choice in return. More than 1500 books including text and reference  books in the subjects of Commerce, Economics, Management, Computer Science, Mathematics and  of various genres viz Literature (English & Punjabi), Religion, Spirituality & Competitive Examination were exhibited in the college lawns.

A special stall was installed comprising college’s own publications where in the students can take any boo without any requirement of exchange.

Director S. Jagdish Singh Ji inaugurated the event and highly appreciated the staff and students for being engaged in such academic pursuits with zeal and wholehearted involvement.

Principal, Dr. Navdeep Kaur expressed happiness over enthusiasm shown by the students for this project. The students in their feedback expressed great satisfaction & appreciation for organizing such activities in the college. A good number of students contributed books from their collection & presented the same to those who wanted to read.

The event was co-ordinated by Mrs. Simranjit Kaur, Librarian and Mrs. Monica Chhabra Asst. Prof. in Commerce along with the members of student council.

Majlis (October 14, 15 and 17, 2022)

The College organized “Majlis” for students of all classes from October14 to October 17, 2022 giving them opportunity to showcase their unique talents in singing, dancing, acting, poetry recitation, extempore and mimicry. Principal Dr. Navdeep Kaur, appreciated the participants and stressed upon the importance of arranging such a programme. The event concluded with a vote of thanks presented by Sharanjeet student of (M.Com Sem-III). The entire event was coordinated by Ms. Kiran Bala, Ms. Harpreet Kaur and Ms. Harleen Kaur.

Role Play on ‘Mathematics Day’ (October 18, 2022)

An activity based on role plays portraying the use of Mathematics in everyday life was organized by the Mathematics department. Five teams enacted short skits to depict the importance and need of mathematics in daily life. Principal Dr. Navdeep Kaur, highly appreciated the initiative of the faculty of Mathematics in organising the event and motivated the students to learn more about the application of mathematics in various fields. (Mrs Vijaylaxmi and Ms Kiran Bala acted as judges for the contest and the team comprising 10+2 Humanities was declared the winner.)

Session on ‘Relevance of Insurance in Financial Planning’ (October 18, 2022)

SSSS College of Commerce for Women organized a Seminar on Relevance of Insurance in Financial Planning. Ms. Geeta Paindey, Branch Manager, PNB MetLife, Amritsar along with her team comprising Mr. Darminder Singh, Mr. Amarbeer Singh and Mr. Shubham Viz visited the college to acquaint the students and faculty with the significance of financial planning in life. During the interactive session, the resource person emphasized the importance of ensuring financial well-being. She further threw light on the various thumb rules and ‘Circle of Life’ to be referred while making decisions for saving and investing.   The resource person informed the merits of insurance scheme over other financial instruments. 

The company representatives made an offer for internships and part time jobs for the college students. 

The visiting team held another session for the faculty wherein they were informed about guaranteed return long term savings plan offered especially to salaried personnel by PNB MetLife giving them benefits of tax free investment as well as insurance.  The resource persons were accorded honours by Principal Dr. Navdeep Kaur.The event coordinated by Dr Payal and Dr Tina Vohra was found equally beneficial for the students and faculty. 

Excursion to Wonderland (October 19, 2022)

Taking a day break from the hectic schedule, College organized an outing for the students on 19 October, 2022 at Wonderland, Jalandhar. The students had a fun time in the park strolling, hiking, wading through water and exploring the beauty of the nature. Light breakfast and sumptuous lunch was also served to all the students. This relaxing trip gave an opportunity to the students to spend more time with one another strengthening the bond of friendship and unity. They enjoyed it to the fullest. It was a sound and safe return trip by 6:30 pm. Indeed, it was a great day.

Diwali Carnival (October 20, 2022)

Diwali, festival of lights, symbolizes the spiritual victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance. SSSS College of Commerce for Women, Amritsar celebrated Diwali Fest at its campus on 20th October 2022 with full zeal and fervour. The beats of music and colours of rangoli filled the atmosphere with festive spirit. The sumptous treat of a variety of food items and ice-cream were the special attraction of the event. The students danced to the popular numbers. The food stalls offered a variety of snacks and sweets. Stalls of eatables of all sorts were also a part of the mela and were relished by one and all. The students in their colourful attire were seen posing for photos with their friends all over the campus making it a memorable event for their college life. The mela depicted the vibrance of this festival and happiness.

Prakash Purab of Guru Ram Dass Ji (October 22, 2022)

SSSS College of Commerce for women, Amritsar celebrated the Prakash Purab of Guru Ram Dass Ji on October 22, 2022 with religious zeal and fondness. The students of SSSS Group of Institutes chanted hymns from Gurbani, imbuing the whole atmosphere with divine musical notes. A soulful poem expressing devotion for Guru Sahib was intoned, followed by Ardas and Hukamnama recitation.The Honaray Secreatary, S. Jagdish Singh Ji, reflecting on the life, legacy and directives of Guru Ram Dass Ji asked the sangat to absorb the qualities of self service and humility and follow the righteous path shown by the Guru Sahib.

Principal, Dr. Navdeep Kaur congratulated and thanked one and all for the successful conduct of the event. Dr. R.S Bawa in his address directed the students to imbibe in them the true essence of Gurbani. The students who received scholarship in the Religious Exam conducted by SGPC and the participants of Shabad Keertan, Ardas and Hukamnama recitation were also honoured.

The students and the faculty members performed the ‘Langar Sewa’ with devotion and whole heartedness.

Jaswant Singh Jass (Bureau Chief, Daily Ajit) and Sh. Avinash Mohindru (Chairman, Bhavan’s SL School) were the guests of Honour. A token of gratitude was also presented to the exemplary figure, Director, Sr. Jagdish Singh ji by the members of the Managing Committee.

Sardarni Swaran Kaur, Dr. Manmohan Singh, Justice R.S Randhawa, Sr. D.B Singh, Pr. Gurpreet Singh, Madam Arvinder Kaur, Madam Jaswinder Kaur, Dr. Tejpal Singh, Dr. R.S Bawa, Sr. Jasbir Singh Patti, Dr. Harkant Singh and Pr. Savita Khanna were also present on the occasion.

Online Interactive session on Menstrual Health and Hygiene (28th October, 2022)

SSSS College of Commerce for Women, Amritsar, organized an online interactive session on Menstrual Health and Hygiene for the faculty members and the support staff of the college in virtual mode on 28th October, 2022. Ms Ankita Sukhwal, CSR executive, Unicharm India & a specialist in child and women welfare was the resource person.  The speaker made the participants aware about the various concepts related to menstruation such as puberty, adolescence, hormonal changes, female reproductive system, menstrual cycle, menstrual abnormalities, yoga poses to be done during menstruation etc. Keeping in mind, the age group of the participants, the special focus of the interactive session was on menopause. The speaker spoke about the various physical, emotional and behavioural changes associated with menopause and also suggested various ways to handle them. Dr. Tina Vohra, Asst. Prof. in Commerce and Ms. Kawaljit Kaur, Asst. Prof. in Computer Science were the coordinators of this highly insightful session.

Cleanliness Rally (under Clean India Program) (31 October, 2022)

To celebrate ‘Swachhta Pakhwada’. The NSS Unit of SSSS College of Commerce for Women organized a cleanliness rally around the college campus as per guidelines of ‘Department of Youth Affairs and Sports’, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports on Monday, October 31, 2022. 60 Volunteers of NSS Unit participated in this rally and spread the message of cleanliness using placards showcasing different slogans like ‘We want clean India Green India, ‘Keep your surroundings Clean’, ‘Make the Earth Green’. Refreshments were served to all participants.

National Unity Day (31 October, 2022)

‘National Unity Day’ was celebrated on October 31, 2022 by the NSS Unit of SSSS College of Commerce for Women to commemorate the birth anniversary of Sh. Vallabhbhai Patel. ‘Rashtriya Ekta Diwas’ oath ceremony was celebrated to mark the occasion. 60 volunteers took the pledge to preserve the unity, integrity and security of the nation and also strive hard to spread this message among the fellow countrymen.

Business Quiz (01 November, 2022)

Department of Commerce & Business Management of SSSS College of Commerce for Women organized Business Quiz on November 01, 2022. The participants for the Business Quiz were selected through a preliminary round held on September 30, 2022 in which 115 students appeared. Three teams with three participants in each team competed through 6 rounds viz. Biz-e-buzz, sports, politics, general awareness, subject awareness, and infotainment.

Principal, Dr. Navdeep kaur, highlighted the availability of unlimited development potential of human intellect and encouraged the students to upgrade themselves through steady & intensive learning so as to become eligible to qualify any mode of evaluation.

She also emphasized about the top 10 skills like Emotional Intelligence, Creativity, storytelling needed to be developed as per World Economic Report to be future ready.

In reference to Punjab Divas i.e. on November 01, 2022, she spoke about the richness and importance of Punjabi for each one of us. She laid stress on the fact the various persons who became successful in their life by completing their education in their mother tongue language. Janhavi khosla (B.Com Sem-III), Mridu (B.Com Sem-V) and Jasmeen Kaur (BBA Sem-I) were declared as the winners of the Business Quiz.

Honorary Secretary S. Jagdish Singh congratulated the team members for their outstanding performance and gave their blessings.

Zonal Youth Festival (02 November, 2022)

SSSS College of Commerce for Women, Amritsar won the ‘2nd overall’ Championship Trophy in Zonal Youth Festival (‘A’ Zone) of GNDU held from October 31, 2022 to 02 November, 2022. The students of the college made their mark by winning 1st position in Debate, 2nd position in Kawishri and 3rd position in Mehandi, Elocution and Poetical symposium respectively.

Hony. Secy. S. Jagdish Singh and Principal, Dr. Navdeep Kaur congratulated all and lauded the students and the faculty on putting their best efforts.

Career Carnival (02 November, 2022) Day 1

Placement and Entrepreneur Cells of SSSS College of Commerce, Amritsar organized a Two Days ‘Career Carnival’ on November 02, 2022 and November 03, 2022.  Five sessions were conducted. 

On day one, Prof (Dr.) Saroj Arora from Department of Botanical and Environmental Science, GNDU, Amritsar was the speaker of the first session. The resource person spoke about the ‘Employ-ability Skills’. Citing the examples, she said that ‘Once a career is chosen, then the person is struck with it’ is just a myth. As per the resource, the need of the hour is creating employment opportunities, shaping and polishing the potentialities, communicating effectively verbally and non-verbally, respecting the dignity of labour, having positive attitude while accomplishing the task assigned and respecting all at workplace.  Students of third semester of BCom and BCom (FS) attended the session.

Mr. Vikramjeet, Deputy Director and Mr. Gaurav Kumar, Career Counselor, from DBEE (District Bureau of Employment and Enterprises, Amritsar) were the resource persons of the second session. While interacting with the students Mr. Vikramjeet, Deputy Director, talked about the relevance of Career Guidance and discussed about the various avenues available in government and private sector. The resource person, while sharing his personal experiences, said that making right decisions about the profession needs right guidance at right time, introspection of the potentials within and making efforts whole heartedly. Principal Dr. Navdeep Kaur, in her address shared that the focus of College is on making teaching-learning process more student-centric whereby students’ interests can be matched with the skills required for the job market. Students of fifth semester of BCom, BCom (FS), BBA, BSc (Eco) and BCA attended the session.

Students found the sessions very informative. Token of gratitude was also presented to the resource persons. Dr.Payal, Dr. Samriti Kapoor and Mrs. Ravneet Kaur coordinated the sessions successfully.

Career Carnival (03 November, 2022) Day 2

On the second day of ‘Two Days Career Carnival’, Mr. Jatinder Kumar, Center Manager IBT and Mr. Jatin Mohan Sharma, Coordinator IBT, were the resource persons of the first session ‘Enhancing Employability Attributes’. While interacting with the students, the resource persons elaborated the ways of solving the mathematical problems accurately and quickly.  The resource persons emphasized on being confident, committed and consistent in efforts for attaining their goal. Students of fifth semester of BCom, BCom (FS), BBA, BSc (Eco) and BCA attended the session.

During the second session, Alumna of the college  Mrs. Rakhi Oberoi, HR and Operations Manager at  Shakti-power solutions Pvt. Ltd. and Medica Enterprises  was the the resource person. The resource person shared her views on the ‘Journey of Being an Entrepreneur’ which needs perseverance and persistent efforts for taking up various challenges. Students of third semester of BCom attended the session.   Chattered Accountant Ms. Shilpa, alumna of the college, was also present during the session.                 

In the third session, Ms. Poshiplatta Bagati, Senior Trainer and Mr. Divyam Aggarwal, Senior Executive from Kochiva shared their views on ‘Industrial Insight to Ensure Best Career in IT’. The resource persons told about various programming courses including Python and emphasized on up-skilling the IT Skills and potentials for a great future. Students of fifth semester of B.Com, B.Com (FS), & BCA and students of third semester of BCA attended the session.

 Principal Dr. Navdeep Kaur, mentioned the importance of this sort of exposure and carnival. She was glad that students now have a wider world to explore and a vast multitude of opportunities available. Dr. Kaur praised the students for taking keen interest in such programmes.

Student’s queries were answered in each session. Each session was very informative and encouraging. Token of gratitude was also presented to the resource persons. Dr. Payal, Dr, Samriti Kapoor and Mrs. Ravneet Kaur coordinated the sessions successfully.

Visit to an Old Age Home (November 07, 2022)

SSSS College of Commerce for Women Amritsar organized a trip to an Old Age Home ‘ Mil Vartan’ for students of the Rotaract Club of SSSS College of Commerce for Women on November 07, 2022. 15 students and 2 teachers were greeted by a representative of the Old Age Home, who gave a brief description of the home and those residing there. The students interacted with the senior citizens and listened to their stories with rapt attention. The group led by Dr. Tina Vohra and Mrs. Vijay Laxmi presented books, candles and cookies to mark the auspicious occasion of Gurpurab Celebration. Together they recited hymns from Gurbani. The residents of old age home extended their blessings to the students at teachers and expressed their gratitude for visiting them. Receiving lessons of life from the older people from diverse background, it was truly an enriching experience for the students.

Online Workshop on ‘Intellectual Property Rights & Patents & Design Filing’        (November 09, 2022)

SSSS College of Commerce for Women in association with Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Intellectual Property Management (RGNIIPM), Govt. of India, Nagpur organized ‘Online Workshop On Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) & Patents and Design Filing on November 09, 2022 under National Intellectual Property awareness mission. Mrs. Pooja Maulikar, Examiner Patents & Designs (RGNIIPM) acted as resource person. She apprised the students about various types of IP’s viz Patents, Tradeworks and copyrights. The resource person made students aware regarding value of IP designs and patenting in their career and how they can patent their innovations and designs. Dr. Navdeep Kaur, Principal, thanked the resource person for her valuable insights on intellectual properties and encouraged the students to gain more knowledge on IP’s. Dr. Moninder Kaur acted as moderator and Dr. Samriti Kapoor and Mrs. Isha Arora co-ordinated the workshop jointly.

Bibi Raj Devi Divas (November 10, 2022)

SSSS College of Commerce for Women, Amritsar celebrated “Bibi Raj Devi Divas” on Thursday, November 10, 2022 in the memory of Bibi Raj Devi w/o S. Sant Singh, the founder of SSSS and the woman who conceived the concept of women education in the year 1906.

Jagdish Singh Ji, Honorary Secretary, while addressing the audience, appreciated the philosophical moment presented in the form of Nat-Kavita – Kagaj, Sama te Aurat, self-composed poem and Kavishri presented by the students and faculty members of Niralam, the theatrical group of the College. Further, he said that it was the spirit of selfless service and the farsightedness of the couple Bibi Raj Devi and S. Sant Singh that made them donate their assets for the welfare of society in year 1893 for establishing a Nursery School in the vicinity of Golden Temple, Amritsar.

Principal Dr. Navdeep Kaur, while remembering the vision, commitments and contributions of founders, said that the life of Bibi Raj Devi reflects that she was the embodiment of peace, faith and action.

Ms. Kiran and the other members of Niralam Group were honoured. Students and faculty members of sister institutions also graced the occasion.

The Principal of the college proposed the formal vote of thanks.

Children’s Day (November 14, 2022)

The Rotaract Club of SSSS College of Commerce for Women, Amritsar celebrated Children’s Day on November 14, 2022 with the students of IVth Standard of St. Mary School, Majitha Road, Amritsar. A group of Rotractians including 21 students and 4 teachers were greeted by the Principal of St. Mary School, Sister Elizabeth Kalyan. The volunteers from the college interacted with the children and told them about India’s first Prime Minister Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru in whose memory Children’s day is celebrated. A short play was also performed by the volunteers of the college on the theme “Cleanliness is next to Godliness”, in order to make the children aware about the importance of cleanliness in their life. The children enjoyed playing fun games with the students of the college. The children’s joy knew no bounds on receiving drawing & colouring books, chocolates and candies from the students of the club. The members of the faculty Dr. Tina Vohra, Ms. Vijay Laxmi, Ms. Neetu Vinod and Ms. Honey accompanied the students to the school.

Constitution Day (November 26, 2022)

The NSS Unit of SSSS College of Commerce for Women observed ‘National Constitution Day’ on November 26, 2022.A pledge taking ceremony was undertaken by NSS Volunteers to strength India as a Sovereign, Socialist, Secular and Democratic Republic. 50 NSS Volunteers participated in the event, Mrs. Dilpreet Kaur (Asst. Prof.) and Ms. Mamta Arora (Asst. Prof.) jointly coordinated the event.

Seminar on Women’s Health (December 3, 2022)

SSSS College of Commerce for Women organized a Talk on Women’s Health on December 3, 2022. Dr. Vijayalakshmi, Principal, S.B.S. Institute of Nursing, Amritsar was the guest speaker. She commenced the session giving an overview of the major health issues viz. Heart disease, Stroke, Diabetes, Maternal health issues, Cancer etc. In her address, the resource person further spoke in detail about gynecological problems faced by women and spoke at length about their prevention and early diagnosis. She concluded her presentation with a few lines by Mother Teresa dedicated to every female. Towards the end, Ms. Kawaljit Kaur, Asst. Professor, presented the Vote of Thanks. The highly educative session was attended by 200 students.

Save Soil Session (December 6, 2022)

A special session of Save Soil was held at SSSS College of Commerce for Women on December 6, 2022. Students were made aware about the massive problem that humanity is moving towards due to the depletion of Soil and the dire need to act now. The session covered a detailed overview about the Conscious Planet Movement: Save Soil, initiated by Jaggi Vasudev popularly as known as Sadhguru and elaborated the ways this movement is working to reverse the situation of extinction of soil. The participants were informed about the support received by the movement till date and their commitment towards spreading the word about the need to save soil to as many people as possible for them was obtained. Students went through a guided meditation to help them connect to soil and they were sensitized towards the cause. 150 students attended the session and received the Save Soil stickers which they pasted on their two wheelers.

Project Warmth (December 30, 2022)  

The Rotaract Club SSSS College of Commerce for Women, Amritsar under project warmth turned “Trash into Treasure” by donating surplus woolen clothes and blankets alongwith packets of winter food to those in need.

The students and members of the faculty collected around 250 pieces of winter clothes and distributed them among the employees of the college and the needy especially the women and children begging on the traffic signal to help them fight the harsh weather on New Year’s Eve.

Rotaractors led by Dr. Tina Vohra, President Ms. Cavery Mahajan and IPP( immediate Past President) and Club Advisor Ms. Sukhpinder Kaur executed the entire project with love and compassion. Dr. Navdeep Kaur, Principal congratulated and motivated the rotaractors to keep up the good work.

Three-days online workshop on ‘GST Accounting & Return filing’

Tally Company Master Partner Eduhome Institute conducted a three-days online workshop on ‘GST Accounting & Return filing’ from January 06, 2023 to January 08, 2023.

Resource person CA Pardeep Makkar acquainted the students with the various accounting softwares such as Tally Prime, Busy, SAP,  Marg etc. being used by Business Organizations.

Mr Makkar made the students aware about the types of GST Return & procedure for filing it. He also apprised the students about the various training programmes offered by Eduhome Institute for the young generation.

Around 150 students from BCom, BBA and MCom attended the workshop and found it very informative and knowledgeable.

Certificates of participation were awarded to the students who attended all the three sessions by Master Partner Eduhome Institute.

It was indeed an effective learning platform for the participants.

Shadows of the Past 2023

The Research and development wing of SSSS College of Commerce for Women carried out a project “Shadows of the Past” on January 18, 2023, wherein the resource person, Mrs. Indira Singh, an octogenarian and a former professor in psychology from Banaras Hindu University, shared her experiences with the students and the faculty members of the college. She recalled various happenings from her own life and emphasized the value of being respectful to teachers and parents. She gave an inspirational message to students to assume responsibility for every action of theirs, to be active listeners and to mindful towards their speech. The students were inspired to think positive,do good and be determined towards their goals.

15 students of the college, 7 faculty members and the inmates of Milvartan, an old age home, witnessed the programme.

Mrs. Pooja Monga, Head, Department of Computer Science and Dr. Tina Vohra, Assistant Professor in Commerce, jointly co-ordinated the session and presentedher with a robe of honour as a token of gratitude. 

Visit to ‘District Bureau of Employment and Enterprises’ Amritsar (January 24, 2023)

The Placement Cell of the College organized a visit to the office of District Bureau of Employment and Enterprises, Amritsar on January 24, 2023. Deputy Director DBEE Mr. Vikramjeet (EGSDTO) and Mr. Gaurav Kumar (CC) interacted with the students and apprised them about various career opportunities and also informed about book cafe and other such facilities offered by DBEE to facilitate preparation of competitive examination. Members from faculty Dr. Payal, Mrs. Ravneet Arora and Ms. Kawaljit Kaur accompanied a group of 44 students from the final semester of B.Com, B.Com Financial Services, BCA, BBA and B.Sc. Students find the visit an enriching experience and thanked the college authorities for organizing such activities. 

National Voter’s Day (January 25, 2023)

13th National Voters Day was celebrated on January 25, 2023.The campus voting ambassador Ms. Gurnoor Kaur (B.Com Sem-VI) administered oath to the fellow students and members of the faculty for exercising their voting rights judiciously. Students also designed colorful posters and meaningful slogans to spread voter awareness on this occasion.

Alumni Meet (28 January 2023)

Alumni Meet 2023 was organized at Rose Villa Hall of SSSS College of Commerce for Women on January 28, 2023. Reunion through Alumni Meet offered an opportunity to students to refresh their old memories and visit their alma mater.

Jagdish Singh, Honorary Secretary, blessed the alumni and wished them pinnacles of success in their future endeavors. A short film titled ‘Conversation with Planets’ was shown to the Alumni which was followed by self-composed poetry recitation by Ms. Kiran Bala, Asst. Prof. in Punjabi.

Dr. Navdeep Kaur, Principal encouraged the alumni to collaborate through formal platform and join hands for mutual growth & development. She appreciated the alumni for being goodwill of the alma mater.

Award Ceremony (February 2, 2023)

SSSS College of Commerce for Women, Amritsar jointly with SSSS College of allied Studies Amritsar organized award ceremony on February 2, 2023. The event was conducted for honouring the students securing the marks more than 70 percent in Business & Accounting Talent Search Examination (BATSE) 2023 held through online mode on January 29, 2023. The purpose of conducting this contest was to assess students’ learning aptitude in commerce and management and helping them to opt the suitable courses in the disciplines of commerce and management. 339 students from 25 senior secondary schools affiliated with Central and State educational boards appeared in the examination. Certificates were awarded to all 108 successful candidates. The students securing more than 80 per cent marks were honoured with prizes and four students securing 95 percent marks were honoured with the trophy.  

S. Jagdish Singh Ji Director, while welcoming the Chief Guest Mr. Vikramjeet, Deputy Director and Mr. Gaurav Career Counsellor from District Bureau of Employment and Enterprises (DBEE) emphasized on need of career counseling for shaping the future of young generation. 

The chief guest enlightened the students about the Nodal agency DBEE, it’s outreaching activities, various government schemes, facilities available at DBEE center for preparing for various competitive examinations at state and national levels. He added dedication, hard work and consistency as the key factors for being successful in a profession. The expert also briefed the students about various professional avenues including the armed forces.

The Chief guest and Career Counselor, DBEE, were presented token of gratitude. Mrs. Disha Mohan and Mrs. Ravinder Kaur from Govt. School Shivala, S. Sukhwinder Singh  from SSSS College of Allied Studies, Mrs. Manpreet Kaur from SSSS Modern School, Mrs. Shruti Sarin From Khalsa International School and  Mrs. Shikha from SSSS Junior College of Commerce were also honoured for their remarkable contribution in conducting the test. Principals and faculty members of sister institutions and teachers Mrs. Pooja Sharma and Mrs. Seema Mohan from Govt. School Mall road graced the occasion. Parents of the students were the special guests of the event. 

In the end, students performed the folk dance. Assistant Professor in Commerce Ms. Ramya recited the poem in praise of the self- the soul.

Principal Dr. Navdeep Kaur congratulated all the students for their performance and wished them good luck. She thanked and appreciated the chief guest for the informative information and the audience. In her address she raised a question pertaining to brain drain and suggested not to be the part of herd mentality for going abroad rather to think and research all the information about what you want to do. Do what you cherish should be the motive. 

Principal Mrs. Savita Khanna, Mrs. Jaskiranjit Kaur and Ms. Twinkle Mahajan coordinated the test. Dr. Samriti Kapoor acquainted the audience with various courses they can opt after class 12. Dr. Payal conducted the event successfully.

Book Bank Fair under the project ‘Saugaat’ (February 3 and February 4, 2023)

Book Bank Fair under the project ‘Saugaat’ was organized in the College on February 3-4, 2023 wherein 350 students received textbooks related to their curriculum for the new semester. Under this scheme, the students are offered to pick any book of their choice in exchange for any old book they are no longer in need of. It is pertinent to mention that this has been the fourth book fair organized by the college and more than 2000 books have been supplied so far under this scheme to those who need them without any charges.

National Mathematics Day 2022 (February 4, 2023)

Our students participated in the inter- college competition ‘National Mathematics Day 2022’ held at Shanti Devi Arya Mahavidyala DinaNagar, Gurdaspur on Saturday February 04, 2023,The team comprising  two students viz Aishpreet Kaur and Pragya of B.Sc. (Eco) first year won second prize in mathematics model making competition.

Career Counselling Session (February 6, 2023)

Career Counselling session was organized at Government Girls Sr. School, Mall Road, Amritsar on February 06, 2023 for the senior secondary students mainly from the streams of Commerce and Humanities to appraise them about the suitable career options.Senior members from the faculty viz Mrs.  Priyanka Sharma,Ms. Harpreet Kaur Uppa , Mrs. Ravneet Arora and Mrs. Neetu Vinod were the resource persons for the discplines of Commerce, Economics and Mathematics respectively. The students were informed about various facilities available in the college such as affordable fee structure, government scholarship schemes, skill development and value added courses, personal contact programme, project ‘ Saugaat’, Earn While you learn scheme etc. The resource persons were able to satisfy the queries by the participants quite effectively. On the whole the event was found relevant and highly useful for the aspirants of higher education.

Guidance Seminar (February 09, 2023)

SSSS College of Commerce for Women organized extension lectures under its Community linkage program for the students of Govt. Girls Sen. Sec. School, Shivala Road, Amritsar on February 09, 2023.

The first session was conducted by Ms. Kawaljit Kaur to apprise the students of IX and X regarding the basics of MS Excel. Thereafter, Mrs. Pooja Monga explained the concept of networking to the students of XI and XII with the help of PowerPoint.

A career guidance session for the students of senior secondary classes was also conducted by the visiting faculty wherein the information regarding various course options after 10+2 was shared. The principal of the school and faculty appreciated the resource persons and expressed their gratitude towards the College authorities for this initiative.

Winter Carnival (February 15, 2023)

SSSS College of Commerce for Women hosted Winter Carnival on Wednesday, 15 February 2023 with great ardor and exuberance.

The students were given a platform for exhibiting their business acumen and leadership skills.

Several stalls comprising a wide range of handicrafts, eatables, fun games, nail art, mehendi, and music were put up by the students who were keen on exploring their entrepreneurship abilities.

While inaugurating the event, Director S. Jagdish Singh ji said that promoting entrepreneur skills among students is the need of time.

Principal Dr. Navdeep Kaur appreciated the students for their ideas, initiative, and organizational skills.

The event was coordinated by the Entrepreneur Cell of the College to promote entrepreneurship among the students.

Combining the elements of enterprise and entertainment the event was found to be a highly enjoyable learning experience by all.

Career Counselling Session (Designed especially for parents) (February 16, 2023)

SSSS College of Commerce for Women Amritsar organized an orientation program for parents of Students in Plus two Classes on Thursday, February 16, 2023 to acquaint them about the courses the students can opt after completing senior secondary in the streams of Commerce and Humanities. S.Jagdish Singh , Director urged the parents to take into account the interest of the students as a prime factor while making choices with respect to courses they would opt for higher education.

Dr Navdeep Kaur, Principal apprised them about various career options and the courses suitable for those aspiring for jobs in financial services and public sector as per student’s aptitude.

The event was coordinated by Mrs. Ravneet Arora and Mrs. Kuldeep Kaur. More than 150 parents attended the event and regarded it highly useful and relevant for them.

Tech Fest 2023 at Khalsa College, Amritsar (February 17, 2023)

An inter-college Tech Fest 2023 was hosted by Khalsa College, Amritsar on February 17, 2023. Students of the college participated in various events viz. Brain O Mania (Quiz), Web Blog, Tech Rangoli, IT Chart Innovation, Junk Wars etc. and won the overall trophy of the competition.

Financial Literacy & Career Awareness Program in Collaboration with NISM (February 20-21, 2023)

The Placement Cell of SSSS College of Commerce for Women organized a Two Pay Financial Literacy & Career Awareness Program in Collaboration with National Institute of Securities Market on February 20-21, 2023. Mr. Nagesh Kumar C.S. and Mrs. Anita Saini, Certified Securities Market Trainer from SEBI acted as Resource persons.

The first session began with a quiz to probe financial acumen of students related to saving, investment & risk. In further sessions resource persons apprised the students regarding pre- requisites of buying and selling in securities market and various financial instruments, available for investment.

The procedure of investing in primary & secondary market was also elaborated to the participants and resource persons also bring into light fallacies of stock market. The resource persons urged the participants to guide their family & peers regarding investments on the basis of knowledge gained from the program. They also threw light on career choices & opportunities available for the students in the securities market. In the concluding session Dr. Navdeep Kaur, Principal emphasized on sensible investing and encouraged the students to act as trustee of their wealth and avoid impulsive spending behaviour. The event co-ordinated by Dr. Payal and Mrs. Monica Chhabra jointly was fond informative & relevant by the participants.

Rotaract Club of SSSS College of Commerce for Women celebrated Mahashivratri (February 25, 2023)

SSSS College of Commerce for Women, Amritsar, celebrated Mahashivratri on 25th February, 2023, for promoting the universal values of brotherhood and compassion among the students. It is said that Lord Shiva is very fond of milk as it helps in cleansing the negativity in the aura and nurtures and nourishes the brain and soul with goodness, noble thoughts and satvik mindset.To mark the  occasion, the volunteers of  The Rotaract Club of the college distributed milk packets among the needy.

Bhog of Sehaj Path of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji (March 01, 2023)

As per the annual program of college Bhog of Sehaj Path of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji followed by soulful rendition of shabads from Gurbani was performed in college premises on 1 March 2023.

The entire ceremony comprising of performing ardas and taking of Hukamnama was rendered by the students in true devotion and spirit.

Holy Deg was distributed among all present.  Students and staff who were actively involved in the Gunmat seva, Shabad recitation & Aardas were honoured.

Present on the occasion S. Jagdish, Hony Secy. showered his blessings on all. In his speech he stressed the importance of self-discipline and integrity.

Principal Dr. Navdeep Kaur also blessed and congratulated the gathering. She highly lauded the spirit of the members who regularly perform Gurmat Bhawan sewa and others who contributed wholeheartedly for the smooth conduct of the event.  Light refreshment was served to all present during the occasion. Future of work: Industry 4.0, Innovation & 21st Century Skills (March 6, 2023)

SSSS College of Commerce for Women Amritsar conducted Poster making and Slogan writing competition to mark Y20 summit as per the guidelines of Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar for the Ministry of Youth affairs and Sports, Govt of India on March 6, 2023 in Rose Villa, the College Hall.

Students presented their perceptions on theme ‘Future of work : Industry 4.0, Innovation & 21st Century Skills’ in which around 50 students conveyed their ideas on ‘Innovation in Technology and Job security’ and ‘Shift from job seekers to self-employed, entrepreneurs and job creators’ through posters and slogans respectively.

Quiz competition on theme ‘Future of work: Industry 4.0, Innovation & 21st Century Skills (March 9, 2023)

SSSS College of Commerce for Women Amritsar conducted a Quiz competition on theme  ‘Future of work: Industry 4.0, Innovation & 21st Century Skills’ to mark Y20 summit as per the guidelines of Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar for the Ministry of Youth affairs and Sports, Govt of India on March 9, 2023 in Rose Villa, College Hall.

40 students participated in the event. Students were selected for the final round on the basis of online preliminary round conducted in the College. In the final round there were three teams comprising three students each. Students were engaged in objective and thought-provoking questions related to Industry 4.0. Principal Dr. Navdeep Kaur talked about technological developments going all over the globe. While talking about future of work, she focused on social and environmental awareness, ability to adapt to change, and readiness to up-skill as per the requirement.

Declamation and Essay writing competitions on the theme ‘Future of work: Industry 4.0, Innovation & 21st Century Skills’ to mark Y20 (March10, 2023)

SSSS College of Commerce for Women Amritsar conducted Declamation and Essay writing competitions on the theme  ‘Future of work: Industry 4.0, Innovation & 21st Century Skills’ to mark Y20 summit as per the guidelines of Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar for the Ministry of Youth affairs and Sports, Govt. of India on March10, 2023.

30 students participated in the competition and conveyed their thoughts on opportunities and challenges involved in various professions. Students focused on standardization of skills, modernization and optimization of primary sectors that are key factors in contributing towards progress and development of the nation, and supporting the professionals emotionally for dealing with the unpredictable problems.

Students’ performance was assessed on the basis of relevance to the main theme, comprehensiveness, originality and insight.

Principal Dr. Navdeep Kaur congratulated the winners for their thought-provoking ideas.

National Mathematics Day (March10, 2023)

Students of SSSS College of Commerce for Women participated in ‘Inter College Competition’ organized by DAV College, Amritsar to celebrate National Mathematics Day on March 10, 2023. One student of B.Sc. (Economics) Sem-II participated in model making and five students of B.Sc. (Economics) participated in Paper Presentation Aishpreet Kaur of B.Sc. (Economics) Sem-II won first prize in paper presentation on the topic ‘Pascal Triangle’.

Career Counseling Session (March 17, 2023)

SSSS College of Commerce for Women Amritsar organized Career Counselling Session on March 17, 2023, Friday in the Rose Villa, the College Hall for the final year students. Principal Dr. Navdeep Kaur while welcoming the resource person Dr. Parminder Kaur, Head Computer Science Department GNDU, Amritsar, talked about the wisdom one acquires through life experiences and urged the resource person to share her story to inspire young girls for constant learning and growth .The Resource Person encouraged the students for asking questions to the self about what one is learning and doing, and emphasized that discipline, updating the skills and interest are must for building capability and getting job ready. She talked about various professional courses available at nominal charges at different online portals. The students’ queries were addressed suitably. Students who completed add-on courses held at College were awarded Certificates. Mrs. Pooja Monga, Head Computer Department SSSS College coordinated the event successfully.

Sports Meet (March 22, 2023)

A Sports Meet was organized by Sant Singh Sukha Singh College of Commerce for Women, Amritsar on March 22, 2023 at Modern High School, Amritsar. The students participated in this event, during which they performed basketball game, 100 and 200 meter race. The main objective of this sports meet was to inculcate the sportsmanship among students, so that they can relish healthy living while performing well in their studies.

College Principal Dr. Navdeep Kaur wished students to have hale and hearty living ahead.

Faculty Development Program (April 03, 2023)

SSSS College of Commerce for Women, Amritsar conducted a ‘Faculty Development Program’ on April 03, 2023. The program consisted of two sessions. In the first session resource person Dr. Tina Vohra (Asst. Prof. in Commerce) outlined the importance of reviewing the literature and gave insight about the format to write the review based article. In the second session of the event fostered the understanding of basic mental health. Resource Person Mrs. Neetu Vinod (Asst. Prof. in Mathematics) acquainted the faculty members with the psychological challenges faced by women and touched upon the role of meditation as a powerful tool for emotional wellbeing and overall health. The session was followed by group discussion and received an overwhelming response. Principal Dr. Navdeep Kaur, while addressing the audience stressed upon knowing oneself, evolving the ability to own responsibilities and putting the best foot forward.

Economics Quiz on ‘Money Matters and Paper Presentation (Event of Tech-Fest) (April 12, 2023)

Department of Economics & Computer Science jointly organized two events namely ‘Money Matters’ & Paper Presentation. Three teams with three participants each, quiz competed, through 5 rounds in the Infotainment. Team A comprising Chesta Sharma (B.Sc.(Economics) Sem-II), Janhavi Khosla (B.Com Sem-IVB) and Aarti (B.Sc.(Ecconomics) Sem-VI) was declared the winner.

The second event ‘Paper Presentation’ was judged by Mrs. Jaskiranjit Kaur, Head, Department of Commerce, Mrs. Vijay Laxmi, Assistant Professor in Mathematics and Ms. Rajni Assistant Professor in Computer Science. Bridge Course – Certificate Awarding Ceremony (April 13, 2023)

SSSS College of Commerce for Women, Amritsar organized a certificate awarding ceremony for the students who attended the Bridge Course (an annual event) scheduled by the college in the month June, 2022. The course aimed at equipping the freshers with the core computing skills, Accountancy and Soft skills, before the onset of the course for the first year degree programme. The course provided the best opportunity for the students to adapt themselves to the new academic environment. The progress of the students was analyzed through a test conducted by the end of the programme. A total of 74 students earned the certificates. Principal Dr. Navdeep Kaur while addressing the students emphasized the need of being disciplined and consistent.

Career Guidance Seminar by Career Launcher (April 20, 2023)

A Career Guidance Seminar in collaboration with Career Launcher, Amritsar was organized on April 20, 2023 in Rose Villa. The resource person Mr. Gautam Aggarwal and Mr. Sagar Chug apprised the students about CAT (Common Admission Test) and the entrance exams for admission to MBA in Various universities within the country and abroad. The students were also explained How to Write an Effective Resume. The seminar was successfully coordinated by Ms. Jaskiranjit Kaur and Ms. Priyanka Sharma. Dr. Moninder Kaur presented the formal vote of thanks. The seminar was conducted by Dr. Tina Vohra and Ms. Dilpreet Kaur.

Career Guidance Seminar (April 21, 2023)

A Lecture on Career Guidance was conducted by the College in association with TIMEs GM Institute for the final year students of B.Sc(Eco), BCA, and B.Com(Fin. Services) on April 21, 2023. Mr. Sushil Mishra, the speaker of the day commenced the session by interacting with the audience about their future career goals. He further provided information regarding various competitive exams related to the Banking sector, Staff Selection Commission (SSC), and various Punjab Govt. posts namely, Sub-inspector, Constable, Patwari, Excise Duty, PUDA Dept. etc. The syllabus and upcoming dates of the exams were also shared. The resource person further motivated the students to work with full determination to reach their set career goals. The queries of the participants were effectively handled by the guest speaker. Dr. Moninder Kaur, Asst. Professor extended the Vote of Thanks for the highly valuable session.

Course: Preparing for Competitive Exams (February 01, 2023 to April 21, 2023)

The Placement Unit of SSSS College of Commerce for Women, Amritsar conducted a program “Preparation for Competitive Examinations” from February 01, 2023 to April 21, 2023 in order to prepare the students for jobs in Banking, SSC, Railways, and other public sector organizations. The program covered four domains namely logical reasoning, quantitative aptitude, English Language and G.K. / Current Affairs. Students were taught core concepts in a simple and interactive manner using digital tools and were provided the study material for appearing in the upcoming competitive exams. They were also made aware about the significance of time management, focused reading, and linguistic skills. Moreover, doubt solving sessions were regularly conducted with the students to enhance their clarity and in-depth understanding. A total of fifteen students from different degree courses participated in the program and appreciated the efforts of the placement cell for conducting such an informative and valuable course.

DRR’s official visit to Rotaract Club of SSSS College of Commerce for Women (April 25, 2023)

SSSS College of Commerce welcomed RTR. ADV. Ashish Arora DRR (District Rotaract Representative) on his official visit to the Rotaract Club of SSSS College of Commerce for Women, Amritsar on Tuesday, April 25, 2023.During this interactive session he appreciated performance of the unit in various community linkage programs and sought their suggestions for future support by the Rotary club in their endeavours. He expressed gratefulness to the Principal, Dr. Navdeep Kaur for facilitating the meet.

Career Counselling Seminar (May 08, 2023)

A seminar on Chartered Accountancy-the best professional course in accountancy was held on May 08, 2023 to motivate students for this brilliant career options. C.A., Mrs. Shilpa Gupta provided deep insights about how to start the journey to become a chartered accountant either after 10+2 or after completing graduation course. She also apprised about various sectors where the services of chartered accountants are highly sought. Mrs. Harbir Kaur, coordinated the session and presents vote of thanks to the resource person.

Trip to Wonderland (May 11, 2023)

A one day excursion to wonderland was organized on May 11, 2023. 90 students joined the trip accompanied by four teachers and a security officer. Students enjoyed a wide range of joy & adventure rides, Water Park games, disco and also sprawled in to a space with a haunted house. It was really an exciting experience which created ever-lasting memories to cherish in the mind of students.

Foundation Day (May 13th, 2023)

Sant Singh Sukha Singh Group of Schools and Colleges, established in 1893 for spreading the light of education, celebrated its 131th Foundation day on Saturday, May 13th, 2023.  Director, S.Jagdish Singh Ji, and a group of about 100 members of the SSSS parivar comprising the principals, teachers and students paid obeisance at Sri Darbar Sahib and Sri Akal Takht Sahib and recited Ardas to express their gratitude to The Almighty for His benedictions in the wee hours of the morning.

A function was held at Mata Kaulan Marg Campus wherein the students of SSSS schools and colleges performed Shabad Kirtan. Director, S. Jagdish Singh Ji enlightened the audience about the contribution of Advocate S. Manmohan Singhji. He further shed light on the history of 130 years of the institution and encouraged the young generation to work hard and make consistent efforts. 

A special programme coordinated by Principal, Dr. Navdeep Kaur and her team was held in the Vidyak Bhawan where S.Kultar Singh Sandhwan (Speaker Punjab Legislative Assembly, Chandigarh) was the chief guest.  Justice R S Randhawa (Retd.)  presided over the event. Dr. Surinder Kaur Sandhu (Former HOD Gynecologist Medical College and Daughter of Advocate Dr. Manmohan Singhji), Dr. Jaspal Singh (Vice Chancellor GNDU,Amritsar) were honoured in the memory of Advocate S. Manmohan Singh ji. Dr. Pretty Sodhi an alumna of SSSS Modern School and Principal, MGSM Janta College, Kartarpur, Jalandhar was honoured with SSSS award.  Giani  Kenwal Singh ji, former Jaithedar Takat Sri Damdma Sahib and Bhai Sahib Ram Singh ji,  member SGPC, Dr. Amandeep Kaur, Director Amandeep Hospital and IAS  Jayant Puri were specially honoured for their remarkable contributions in their respective profession and to the society. Token of gratitude was presented to speaker S. Kultar Singh ji Sandhwan. Congratulating the audience, the Chief Guest talked about the relevance and teachings of the scriptures. Speaker sahib emphasized on aiming high, becoming leaders and creating the job opportunities and becoming perfectionists. 

Justice S. Ranjit Singh ji (Retd.) was also honoured for his services. Justice Sahib appreciated the students for sharing their thought-provoking ideas. Dr. Surinder Kaur remembering her father advocate S. Manmohan Singh ji, known for his contribution in translating the Sri Guru Granth Sahib in English and developing Shabadkosh, shared that his father could accomplish the task with the blessings of almighty.   

Remembering the great philanthropist S. Sant Singh ji,  Principal ,Dr. Navdeep Kaur presented the dignified journey and history  of Sant Singh Sukha Singh Institutions, epitome of academics, sports and cultural activities. 

Students enlightened the gathering about the selfless endeavours of the Founder S.Sant Singh Ji, the historical significance and development of SSSS institutions through the writeups and poems titled  ‘SSSS Naam  Nirala hai’ and penned down by Director Sahib.

A lecture on Environment regarding Water Conservation and Plantation (May 20, 2023)

SSSS College of Commerce for Women, Amritsar organized a lecture on environmental awareness on May 20, 2023. Resource person Dr. Mukesh Aggarwal and Mr. P.N. Sharma delivered a highly informational & discussed talk different techniques to be adopted for water conservation and plantation at individual level. Towards the end a pledge was administered to students in order to this ensure this commitment for whole hearted involvement. Keeping in the surroundings green and clean.

Tree plantation Drive (May 27, 2023)

The Rotaract Club of SSSS College of Commerce for Women jointly with Rotary Club Amritsar Central organised tree plantation drive at SSSS College of Commerce for Women on May 27,2023.Rtn.Rakesh Kapoor,Rtn.Praveen Mehra and other rotarians planted saplings in the campus.The college was also presented “Green Campus Award” for exemplary and continuous efforts for maintaining the environment friendly practices in the campus for the year 2022-23.Dr. Navdeep Kaur,Principal,SSSS College of Commerce for Women along with the faculty members and the rotractors thanked the rotarians for recognising their efforts. Managing Director S.Jagdish Singh honored 19 students who scored 90% and above. He blessed the students with his inspirational words. Mrs. Jaskiranjit Kaur, Head of Commerce Department enlightened about various corses, programmes and activities in the college that students can opt for higher studies. Mrs. Savita Khanna, Principal of SSSS College of Commerce and Allied Studies imparted the knowledge regarding short-term diplomas and courses available in her college. At the end, Dr. Navdeep Kaur, Principal of SSSS College of Commerce for Women offered best wishes and success to the students for their bright future. Dr. Gurrattan Singh, Principal of SSSS Khalsa Senior Secondary School and S. Sukhwinder Singh, Lecturer in SSSS College of Commerce and allied studies were also present. Mrs. Harbir Kaur, Lecturer in Commerce and Ms. Harleen Kaur, Assistant Professor in Commerce co-ordinated the event successfully.

Majlis (May 30, 2023)

SSSS College of Commerce for Women organized ‘Majlis’ a talent show for junior college (Commerce and Humanities) students on May 30, 2023. Students showcased their talents in the form of dance, songs and poetry. Ms. Kiran Bala Asst. Prof. in Punjabi enlightened the students about how art and music can have a calming effect on our mind and soul. Ms. Maninder Kaur and Ms. Harpreet Kaur, Asst. Prof. in Punjabi along with Ms. Harleen Kaur, Asst. Prof. in Commerce graced the occasion. Mrs. Shalini and Mrs. Harbir Kaur, Lecturers in Commerce coordinated the event successfully.

Life pledge for an environmentally conscious lifestyle (May 30, 2023)

SSSS College of Commerce for Women, Amritsar organized a pledge ceremony where 250 students of the college took a pledge to make all possible changes in their daily life to protect the environment and also to motivate others for adopting environmentally friendly habits. The pledge ceremony was organized under MISSION LIFE project of the Ministry of Higher Education on the occasion of World Environment Day.
