Activities (2018-19) 

BEST OUT OF WASTE

A Two day Exhibition (July 17 and July 18, 2018) was organised in the College “Best out of Waste”. The students of junior College made beautiful decorative and utility items from old newspapers, plastic cups, empty bottles and leftover clay, paint material etc. A large chocolate cake made from Plaster of Paris and Colourful paper weights made from roadside pebbles were the major attractions of the exhibition.

 

PERSONAL CONTACT PROGRAMME

This program held between July 19, 2018 to July 21, 2018 is aimed at bringing the students and teachers closer in a healthy atmosphere. The new students who join us in first year of the various Courses are called on one to one basis to sit with their teacher-in-charge and another subject teacher. They are encouraged to show their aspirations as well as apprehensions with respect to their education and life on the whole. This platform helps student to open up and take a fresh look at her goals and dreams. It helps us chalk out various career counseling and financial assistance programme to address the needs of the students. The best thing about their project is that it initiates the development of a bond between the students and the college.

 

PUNJABI QUIZ

A Short Punjabi Quiz was Held on July 26, 2018 to assess the awareness of our students with respect to our home state. The areas covered were geography, history and culture of Punjab. In all 48 students of +1 and +2 participated in this quiz.

 

CLEANLINESS RALLY 

The NSS unit of the college organised a rally on July 28, 2018 to spread the message of keeping the environment clean amongst the masses. Around 50 volunteers took a round of the historic Ram Bagh Garden under the guidance of NSS coordinators Mrs. Savita Khanna and Ms. Rupinder Kaur. The volunteers spent sometimes in cleaning the lawns surrounding the statue of Sher-e-Punjab Maharaja Ranjit Singh. The passers by too, were inspired to join hands in the movement of “Swachh Bharat”.

 

WORLD HEPATITIS DAY

A State level seminar on “World Hepatitis Day” was organised in the Vidyak Bhavan of Sant Singh Sukha Singh Group of Schools and Colleges on July 28, 2018. S. Jagdish Singh, Managing Director extended heartiest welcome to Shri Brahm Mohindra, the Chief guest highly applauded this initiative to create awareness about the disease. A team of medical experts of Fortis Hospital Pvt. Ltd. comprising, Dr. Gurbilas Pannu, Dr. Amitabh Jairath, Dr. H.P Singh, Dr. Ravinder Singh Malhotra and Dr. Arun Chopra spoke the various aspects w.r.t diagnosis and treatment of the disease. S. Kamaljit Singh Sangha, Deputy Commissioner, Amritsar and Sh. S.S Srivastava, Commissioner of Police were also present in the occasion. Dr. Gurbilas Singh Pannu, present the vote of thanks. The audience compromised a good number of teachers, school and colleges students as well.

 

YOGA SESSIONS

Yoga sessions are held every Saturday morning to inculcate the habits of healthy living in the students. The 45-minute session is composed of a demonstration of a few simple asans and teaching them how to involve themselves fully in these exercises for the holistic development of body, mind and soul. The last few minutes are devoted to answer their queries regarding various health and fitness issues.

 

PUNJABI QUIZ 

A Punjabi Quiz was organized on August 24, 2018 for the students of junior college. The quiz comprised three rounds viz Punjabi Literature, Heritage and culture and Films and Music.  A preliminary written quiz was conducted a week earlier and the top scorers were selected to form three teams for the final quiz. A special round was kept for audience too which was highly enjoyed by one and all. Team A comprising Gitika Bhatia, Bhavneet Kaur and Shaina was declared the winner.

 

A DEMONSTRATION SESSION ON FIRST AID TECHNIQUES

 A team of specialists from the District Health Centre conducted a special session on August 25, 2018 to educate the students for a necessary life skill i.e. Medical First Aid in the event of emergency conditions. They demonstrated how to respond to the situations of road accidents or any sudden medical emergency at homes or at a public place.They informed the students about the ambulance services available in the city 24X7 and other such facilities with complete contact details.Around 150 members of the students council attended this session and found it highly useful.

 

Talk on Market Behaviour and Indicators

Mr Rishi Kochhar delivered a comprehensive talk on “Market Behaviour and Indicators” to the students of Post Graduate Department of Commerce on August 30, 2018.He illustrated the practical aspects of the basic theoretical concepts and their implications for actual market operations at the national and International level.The entire discourse was interspersed with video clips, Graphics and real life examples which made the learning process highly interesting.Mrs Ravneet Kaur and Dr Payal coordinated the event.

 

DECLAMATION CONTEST

A declamation contest was organized by the Speakers Forum “Spark”. The participants spoke on their chosen topics out of the list comprising five topics .All the participants spoke with great confidence and flair. Dr. Navdeep Kaur, Principal highly appreciated the efforts of the faculty for motivating the students for such endeavour. She urged the students to inculcate the habit of writing their original thoughts on the topics of interest so as develop creative writing abilities.

 

BHOG SEHAJ PATH SRI GURU GRANTH SAHIB JI

As per the annual program of the college Sehaj Path recitation goes on regularly throughout the year. Keeping in the tradition Bhog Sehaj Path was performed on Saturday,September 1, 2018.Soulful renditions of the hymns from Gurbani were the highlights of the day.The entire ceremony comprising Ardas and Hukamnama was performed by the students in true devotion and spirit.

 

DISCUSSION ON ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES

NSS Volunteers interacted with the students of 8 to 10 grade of SSSS Modern High School, Jandiala Guru on September 5, 2018 where they discussed environmental issues and motivated them towards afforestation.

 

BUSINESS QUIZ

A Business Quiz was organised by the department of commerce and Business Management on September 6, 2018.  A preliminary round for the same was organised on August 18, 2018. 119 students from B.Com and BBA classes participated in the preliminary round and out of those, 9 students were shortlisted for the main round. The quiz covered four areas viz. Business and Accounting, Current affairs, Sports, Politcs, Infotainment and Economics. Team ‘C’ comprising of Mansi Chohan (B.Com Sem-I), Isha Bhandari (BBA- I) and Diksha (BBA- I) was declared the winner.

Dr. Navdeep Kaur Principal urged the students to keep themselves updated with the current changes taking place around the globe and congratulated the winners as well as all the participants.

 

SEMINAR ON AIDS AWARENESS

The College organised a seminar on AIDS Awareness, in collaboration with Red Ribbon Club on September 8, 2018.  Dr. Savita Sharma, Medical Officer, HIV Dept., Amritsar Amritsar made the students aware regarding the HIV/AIDS issues. Students actively interacted with the resource person and cleared their misconceptions regarding the spread of this disease. Ms. Priyanka, head girl of the college extended a vote of thanks to the guest.

 

SEMINAR ON ‘MANAGING CLASSROOM EFFECTIVELY DURING TEACHING’

A seminar was organised by the Faculty Development Forum of the College on the theme ‘Managing Classroom Effectively during Teaching’on September 19, 2018. At the outset Dr. Navdeep Kaur extended heartiest welcome to all participants. While reflecting on the experiences in the field of education she emphasised on having association and good rapport with each student of the class so as to ensure that each student learns with love and enthusiasm and can overcome the learning gaps.

Mrs. VijayLaxmi acted as a resource person and made a comprehensive presentation on the topic. She elaborated on the various teaching styles, developing suitable strategies for maintaining the interest of the students with different learning abilities and promoting their reasoning ability. The presentation was followed by an elaborate discussion on various challenges the teacher faces in terms of curriculum constraints, the limits of time and the present examination system. A few members also raised the issue of individual perception on varying styles of teaching, called for openmindness and mutual confidence amongst the teaching fraternity for a better teaching learning environment.

 

“THE EXPRESSIONIST – WE LIVE TO EXPRESS” : A WORKSHOP

The College organised five- day workshop titled “The Expressionist- We live to express” in collaboration with “Mind Cropper” (a Mohali based organisation) from (9 Oct to 13Oct, 2018). Dr. Gaurav Deora and Dr. Anupam Bhanot were the resource persons. The Workshop covered the following domains:

  • Art of Self Talk
  • Analytical and Critical
  • Art of Expression
  • Preparing and Focusing the mind
  • Leadership and Visionary skills
  • Life Mentoring

Through various activities, case studies, drills and audio-visual clips of the relevant learning modules the students got opportunities to learn new things in very interactive manner.

 

EMPLOYABILITY ASSESSMENT SESSION 

A special employability assessment session, in collaboration with TERRA Education, was organised in the college on October 15 and 16, 2018. Students of all M.Com Classes participated enthusiastically in the session. The Resource person Mr.Simrandeep Singh apprised the students regarding the opportunities available in public and private sector. The employment need analysis was also conducted to assess the career aspirations of the students which will further help in structuring training and placement programs.

 

SEMINAR ON OPERATION AND RECORDING OF TRANSACTION IN BANKS

SSSS College of Commerce for Women organised a seminar on October 18, 2018 on the topic ‘Operation and recording of transaction in banks’. Ms.Manminder Kaur (Asst. Manager IDBI), Mr. Ankur (Asst. Manager IDBI) and Ms. Shivani (Senior Sales Executive) were the resource persons. The Resource person’s informed the students about the Banking software being used and the procedure followed to record the everyday transactions at the Bank. They also elaborated the front office dealing; Know Your Customer (KYC) Norms, Working of NEFT and RTGS, Payments of interest on deposit account etc. They also explained the banking operations with respect to the various kinds of cards viz Credit Card, ATM Card, Debit Card offered by the banks these days.Around 43 Students attend the seminar and made themselves aware about the day to day function of the bank.

 

SEMINAR ON FINANCIAL PLANNING 

A  Seminar was conducted in SSSS College of Commerce on October 24, 2018 under the Faculty Development Program.Mr Satnam Rana, a certified Financial Planner informed the members of the faculty regarding different investment avenues and their respective benefits for the salaried employees.Another session was held for the Post Graduate students under the Financial Literacy Program initiated by SEBI.A video depicting the relevance of developing the habit of savings from an early age was shown. The students were also informed about the career opportunities in the investment sector.The students made lots of queries in the interactive session and found the entire presentation highly interesting and useful.Dr. Navdeep Kaur Principal highly appreciated the Resource person and expressed gratefulness to SV Wealth Partners, the collaborating firm for organizing these events in the college.

 

GURPURAB CELEBRATIONS

Students and members of staff of SSSS College of Commerce, Amritsar, celebrated the birth anniversary of fourth Sikh Guru Sri Guru Ramdas Ji, the founder of Amritsar and 25th foundation day of the college, with religious fervor and devotion at College premises on November 1, 2018. The students recited the Gurbani and Shabad in praise of the Guru Sahib; and filled whole Campus with the vibrations of hymns. Soulful Poems expressing the love & devotion for Guru Sahib & college were also recited by the students. The students recited ‘ardaas’. The Participants & 26 academic achievers of the college were also honoured on this occasion. S. Jagdish Singh Ji, Director, reflected on life, legacy, philosophy and directives of the Guru Sahib and asked Sangat to follow virtuous path shown by the Guru. Dr. Navdeep Kaur, Principal, congratulated one and all on this occasion for their benign presence during the celebration. Students of the college performed ‘Langar Sewa’ whole heartedly. Sardarni Swarn Kaur, S. Shamsher Singh Kahlon, Pr. Satinder Singh, S. Sukhwinder Singh, Pr. Narinder Kaur, Mrs. Manjit Kaur, Mrs. Narinderjit Kaur Marwaha , Mrs. Sharanjit Kaur, Mrs. Arvinder Kaur, were also present on the occasion.

 

INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS- RELEVANCE TO EDUCATION INDUSTRY

A Seminar on the topic ‘Intellectual Property Rights – Relevance to Academia’ was organized in the College under Faculty Development Programme on November 20, 2018. Dr. Samriti Kapoor, the resource person made a comprehensive presentation on the topic. She elaborated on the various types of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) and laws related to it. She also threw light on the infringement of IPR and its implications in India. The members were informed about the consequences of plagiarism and importance of Copyright law in the field of education.

 

WORLD AIDS DAY

The NSS unit of the college organised an event to commemorate World Aids Day on December 1,2018. A presentation was made detailing the symptoms, causes and consequences of this life threatening disease. The students were informed regarding the precautions to be taken in order to avoid HIV infection. All the participants found the presentation highly informative.

 

AD- MAD SHOW 

An event based on twisted advertisements “Ad mad show “was organized by the junior college students on December 1st 2018.The students presented acts of very short duration depicting advertisements for the popular products incorporating the elements of comedy and drama. A few acts, however, focused  primarily on the socially relevant messages like caring for the aged and hazards of blind Faith.All the acts were nicely presented and received thunderous applause from the audience.

 

PRE-EMPLOYMENT PSYCHOMETRIC TEST

As an initiative from Ministry of Labour and Employment Government of India, a Psychometric test was conducted in the college on December 21, 2018. Mr. Rahul, Placement Cell, GNDU and DGE Ministry of Labour and Employment GOI acted as resource person. In the first session he appraised the students about career perspectives and placement drives. In the second session, Psychometric test was conducted which consisted of modules to assess the interest profiles and work profiles of students. Around 130 final year students from different streams appeared for the test that was designed to measure candidate’s ability for a role based on personality characteristics, aptitude and behavioural style.

 

NSS CAMP

A seven days camp was organized during the winter break by the NSS unit of the college from December 22,2018-December 31, 2018. 32 volunteers from amongst the undergraduate and postgraduate degree courses attended the camp along with 5 volunteers from amongst the staff under the guidance of nodal officer Mrs Savita Khanna.

The day wise brief report of the activities is as under :

Day One – Orientation session detailing the participants about the objectives of the scheme was held in the morning followed by  a  brief about the schedule forthcoming days.

Day Two– A training session on self-defence techniques by the experts from the Women Cell of the District Police station.

The participants undertook cleanliness drive in the College campus in the post lunch session.

Day Three-The volunteers participated in community kitchen organized at the extension campus of SSSS at Mata Kaulan Marg.They took part in cooking as well as serving meals to more than 2000 students and parents who came for attending the function to commemorate the Martyrdom of Sahibzadas.

Day Four-A cleanliness rally was organized in Historical Ram Bagh Gardens . The volunteers participated in the clean up drive of the garden area.

They visited Maharaja Ranjeet Singh Panorama and learnt about the glorious history and heritage of the region.

Day Five– A one day trip was organized to  Gurdwara Dera Baba Nanak.The students were very happy to visit this shrine  and were especially delighted to view the holy place associated with Guru Nanak  across the Indo Pak border .

Day Six -A seminar was organized on the theme of girl education- Beti Bachao Beti Padhao.

A short film based  on a story written by  Munshi Prem Chand on the theme  of care of elderly was shown to  the students in the post lunch session.

Day Seven – All notice boards of the college were cleaned and updated  for the new semester .A few volunteers worked in the library and helped in cleaning and arranging the books.

A special closing function was organized wherein a brief cultural program was presented. The participants presented the report of the previous days by way of a multi media presentation in the presence of the S. Jagdish Singh Member Director and Dr. Navdeep Kaur, Principal of the college.

The highlight of the event was a skit depicting the damages being caused to the planet Earth due to the negligence of the Humans.

Throughout the camp everyday started with meditation and yoga and concluded with an interactive session wherin the participants discussed the issues related to moral and social ethics.

In all the camp had been a very interesting and useful learning experience for one and all.

 

PARENT-TEACHERS MEETING

A parent teachers meeting was held on January 15, 2019 especially for the students coming from rural areas. S.Jagdish Singh, M. Director called a meeting of the parents who reside in villages around Amritsar city and send their children to our institution for study. Dr. Navdeep Kaur, Principal welcomed the Parents and briefed the audience about the achievements of the institution in academics. She appreciated the parents for their wise decision regarding providing best educational facilities for their daughters S. Jagdish Singh, M. Director highly praised the parents for their whole hearted support for their children’s education and assured them best of care and facilities. He urged the Parents to provide atmosphere conducive for better studies at home in view of the forthcoming examination.

S.Sukhwinder Singh, Incharge Senior Secondary Wing discussed the program chalked out for the next few days in order to prepare the students well for their board exams.

Around 200 parents attended this meet and expressed their happiness on this initiative by the administrative authorities.

 

YOUTH DAY

SSSS College of Commerce for Women observed youth day to commemorate the Birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda on January 23, 2019. A brief performance comprising lectures and poems depicting the life and philosophy of great leader and visionary was presented in the Rose Villa. The programme was anchored by Ms. Ramya, Asst. lecturer and Ms. Sukhpinder, a student of B.Com final year. The thought of Vivekananda on truth, perseverance and patience were well recited by the audience comprising around 250 students for various classes. Dr. Navdeep Kaur, Principal highly lauded the effort of all the participants; The Nodal officer Mrs. Savita Khanna and Ms. Kiran Bala In-charge cultural affairs for putting up an inspirational show for one and all. 

 

NATIONAL VOTERS’ DAY CELEBRATION

National Voter’s Day was celebrated in the college on January 25, 2019. A special Oath Ceremony was held in the Morning Assembly wherein Campus ambassador Prabhjot Kaur , M.Com Sem IV administered the voter’s pledge to around 300 students and members of the faculty.

 

WORKSHOP ON INCOME TAX AND E-FILING AND GST

Department of Commerce and business administration organized three workshops for the students of B.Com Sem VI. Two workshops, each of 24 hours duration were held on “Income tax and E -filing” from January 22 to January 31, 2019 and another of the same duration on “Good and Services Tax” was held from February 4 to February 7, 2019 . S. Iqbal Singh, CA was the resource person in all the three workshops.

He demonstrated the process of PAN application, filing of return, TDS accounting and other matters related to Income tax.

With respect to GST the workshop covered various aspects to the tax mechanism like registration, filing of returns, preparation of invoices and Input Tax credit etc.

The resource person explained the practical application of the relevant concepts and provided ample time to students to seek clarifications wherever required. The students got hands on experience of the software application through actually working on the real life cases of Filing e returns. This pragmatic approach helped the students to grasp GST as a crucial part of Indian economy.

 

CAREER COUNSELLING SESSION FOR THE STUDENTS OF SSSS KHALSA SENIOR SECONDARY SCHOOL 

The Placement Assistance Committee of the College organised a Career Counselling event for the students of SSSS Khalsa Senior Secondary School who are going to appear in the Senior Secondary Board Examination March 2018. The event was divided into two Sessions. In the first Session the experts from the faculty viz. Mrs Jaskiranjit Kaur, Department of Commerce and Business Administration; Mrs. RavneetArora, Department of Economics and Mrs. Ashmeet Kaur, Department of Computer Science discussed the various courses in the three disciplines which the students can opt for after completing their +2. They made three different presentations elaborating the under graduates and post graduate courses the students can pursue for establish their choice of career whether in teaching profession or office jobs or service sector etc.

The second session was specially organised for the parents so as to apprise them of the variety of course options available for the students of +2 Class with their relative suitability for the desired career for their wards. S.Jagdish Singh, M. Director welcomed the Parents and highly lauded their efforts for facilitating and supporting the education of their children especially daughters. They urged them to support their children’s choices for careers and provide them.

 

SPECIAL MEET OF THE STAFF

The IQAC organised a special meet of the staff on February 14, 2019 in the Lafani Hall. The faculty was apprised of the perspective plans of the college and the programmes undertaken by the college to execute their plans. They were also made aware of the various Updations made in the college website and how they will make useful for the faculty and the students.

The Principal and the members of the IQAC jointly elaborated the various initiatives taken upon to improve the quality of teaching and learning and invited suggestions from the faculty in this regard. The faculty was urged to take up research projects and contribute more towards publication of research papers etc.

 

‘TECHIE-FIZZ’- AN INTER-COLLEGE TECH FEST

An inter-College Tech-Fest ‘Techie-Fizz’ was organized at Hindu College on February 16, 2019. Students of the college participated in various events viz. Rangoli, Catch the Bug, Poster Making and Collages. The prizes won by students in various events are as follows:

ANNUAL SPORTS DAY

Annual Sports Day of the College was held on Monday, February 18, 2019 at SSSS grounds, Mata Kaulan Marg Campus, Amritsar. 

The day started with the recitation of College Anthem and Surya Namaskar. In the welcome address S.Jagdish Singh, Director highly praised the contributions of Dr.  Kanwaljeet Singh towards the achievements of the University in the field of sports and expressed his happiness at his selection as the Vice Chancellor of Central University, Gwalior. He boosted the morale of the participants and motivated them to excel in every pursuit of their student life. Around 50 students participated in various simple sports events such as relay race, hurdle race, Skipping, Tug of War and a few fun games etc. and exhibited great enthusiasm and zeal in every event. The viewers too were joyous and exuberant. Dr. Kanwaljeet Singh, the chief guest urged the students to play an active role in safeguarding the environment and inspired them to take up this cause as life goal for the betterment of the human race.

He appreciated the role of SSSS educational institutions in the field of education and extended his best wishes to the students.

A brief cultural program comprising a medley of traditional and contemporary music was presented by the students which added to the gaiety of the occasion.The Director and the Principal presented Siropa and and a picture of Sri Darbar Sahib as a token of their gratitude to the Chief Guest. A Prize distribution ceremony was held to give away medals and trophies to the winners. Sardarni Swarn Kaur, S Gurpreet Singh, Mrs. Arwinder Kaur, Mrs Neelam, S. Satinder Singh, S. Sukhwinder Singh were also present on this occasion.

 

DECLAMATION CONTEST

A Declamation Contest on the theme ‘Beauty of Mathematics’ was organized by Khalsa College, Amritsar on February 16, 2019. Meghna Dogra (B.Sc (Eco) Sem VI) and ArpitaMahajan (B.Sc (Eco) Sem IV) participated in the competition. Mrs. NeetuVinod and Mrs. Honey, members of the faculty also accompanied the participants.

 

‘NATIONAL MATHEMATICS DAY’ CELEBRATIONS

Department of Mathematics, Guru Nanak Dev University celebrated ‘National Mathematics Day’ to mark 131st birthday of the Indian Mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan on February 21, 2019. Harpreet Kaur of B.Sc (Eco) Sem VI made a powerpoint presentation on ‘Numeric Significance of Gurmukhi Script in Gurbani’. Members of the faculty Mrs. Vijay Laxmi and Mrs. NeetuVinod also attended the event.

 

SPECIAL SESSION ON ‘FINANCIAL PLANNING’

A Session on Financial Planning was organised in the college on February 23, 2019 as a part of Faculty Development Programme. Mr. Kawaljeet Singh Sareen, a SEBI Certified expert was the resource person. Faculty members of degree and junior college and few students of B.Com and M.com attended the session. Dr. Navdeep Kaur, Principal welcomed the expert and threw light on importance of financial planning. The Resource person discussed various investment avenues and urged the faculty to invest the money prudently. He advised to do the diligent research before investing the hard earned money. He also highlighted the cost of money lying idle.  The Resource person asked the audience to consider the aspect of liquidity and rise before allocating funds to a particular investment avenue. He encouraged the faculty to live a dignified and easy life after retirement by investing in suitable retirement schemes. It was followed by an interactive session. Faculty found this program as highly informative and interesting. Mrs. Vijay Laxmi delivered a vote of Thanks.

 

POSTER MAKING AND SLOGAN WRITING COMPETITION

Sirjana’ Committee of the college organized ‘Poster Making and Slogan Writing Competition’ on February 23, 2019 under Red Ribbon Club. CAREER COUNSELLING SESSION FOR STUDENTS OF SSSS MODERN HIGH SCHOOL

The Placement Assistance Committee of the College conducted a Career Counselling event for the students of +2 at SSSS Modern High School on February 27, 2019. Experts from the faculty viz Ms. Ramya, Department of Commerce; Mrs. Ravneet Kaur, Department of Economics and Ms. Kawaljit Kaur, Department of Computer Science presented PowerPoint presentations and discussed the various career options available to the students after +2. The experts urged and motivated the students to select a course as per their aptitude and future career plans and guided them to focus and work hard so as to excel in their chosen options. Around 74 students from commerce and non-medical stream attended the session. The senior faculty members Mrs. Jaskiranjit Kaur, Mrs. Savita Khanna and Mrs. Pooja Monga held the interactive session and answered the queries of the students. ARDAS DIVAS      

To seek the blessings of Waheguru, students and staff members of the College performed the Bhog of Sehaj Path on March 1, 2019. Students recited hymns from Gurbani. The students who performed Gurmat Seva for the first time were specially honoured on this occasion.

S. Jagdish Singh, M. Director highlighted the role and importance of parents in students’ lives. Dr. Navdeep Kaur, Principal informed the students about the new courses. B.Com (Financial Services) to be introduced in the college in the next session. Members of Gurmat Committee were also accorded honours by the college authorities.

 

LECTURE ON BODY PERCUSSION AROUND THE WORLD

A lecture titled ‘Lecture on Body Percussion around the World’ was organized in the college on March 1, 2019. Dr Gregorio Vicente Nicolas, Professor, Department of Art, Music and Physical Education, University of Murcia (Spain), acted as a Resource Person. He discussed the role of dance in various spheres of life. He highlighted the functions and uses of body percussion in rituals, games, social inclusion and social exclusion. Several videos of folk dances of many countries i.e. New Zealand, Hungary, Spain, Australia were shown to the audience. These videos exemplified the use of body percussion as an expression of human emotions, culture and a way of channelizing the energy. The students really enjoyed the session and also tried the body percussion with hands. Students learnt how they can use body percussion for Social inclusion. Dr. Navdeep Kaur, Principal delivered the vote of thanks. Quoting references from Gurbani, she urged the students to respect the first and foremost instrument nature has blessed us with viz. physical body to lead a joyous and healthy life.

 

IMINDZ

The Postgraduate department of Commerce of SSSS College of Commerce for Women organized a special event I-Mindz on March 6, 2019 at Vidyak Bhavan SSSS complex Batala Road. The event comprised various contests enabling the participants to explore their creative and innovative abilities in the context of business management. S.Jagdish Singh, Director presided over the function and Dr. Jasveen Kaur, Head, University Business School, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar was the guest of Honour. Dr. Navdeep Kaur, Principal welcomed the guests and spoke about the relevance of the event for the development of professional skills of the students. Dr. Jasveen Kaur highly appreciated the opportunities the college offers for the overall development of its students. Director S Jagdish Singh bestowed special prizes to the students who have maintained untrimmed long hair.

Students used fascinating punch lines like ‘Fly High and Conquer the Sky’, Clear Vision Bright Mission, Style Better Aim High, A Women: Love of Elegance Captured in Lipstick, PiyoChustiPajaoSusti and many more for promoting the products. The members of the student council and participants of various NSS activities were specially recognized on this occasion. A play titled “Who am I “carrying a strong message to the humanity to save the Planet Earth was presented by the theatre group of the college.

The college administration presented a replica of Sri Darbar Sahib as a mark of respect to Dr. Jasveen Kaur. Principals of SSSS institutions S. Gurpreet Singh, S. Satinder Singh, Mrs. Arvinder Kaur and S. Sukhwinder Singh graced the occasion by their benign presence. The event was coordinated by Dr. Payal Nanda, Dr. Samriti Kapoor and Mrs. Ravneet Kaur.

Tech Fest was organized by the Department of Computer Science of the College in order to extract the inherent skills of the students. The Lab-based technical events viz. Logical whirlpools and Bug Hunting were held on March 2, 2019. The students reflected their creative abilities through art-based events viz. Poster Making and College Making. MONEY MATTERS- AN ECONOMICS QUIZ

An Economics Quiz titled “Money Matters” was organized by the Department of Economics. A preliminary round was conducted on February 28, 2019. Around 215 students participated and 9 students were shortlisted for the final session which was conducted on March 11, 2019. The final Quiz comprised of five rounds namely; Economics, Statistics, Infotainment and sports, current Affairs and Guess me If u Can (Famous Personality Round). The panel of experts from the college faculty apprised the students about various courses they can pursue after completing their matriculation. INTERACTIVE SESSION ON EVOLUTION OF EDUCATION FROM MONOLOGUE TO DIALOGUE TO SKILL- ORIENTED LEARNING

IQAC of College organized Faculty Development Lecture on March 14, 2019. The theme of the program was to discuss the disconnects between education and skills required for employment in todays’ techno-savvy dynamic environment. The Key speakers of the lecture were Dr. Parmood Shreshtha and Mr. Gajendra Shreshtha. The Key speakers talked about the evolution of education from monologue to dialogue to skill oriented teaching learning. Dr. Parmood Shreshtha highlighted the similarities between the philosophical bases of Sikhism and Buddhism, how both religion emphasize on serving the community for the welfare of mankind. Mr. Gajendra Shreshtha talked about the role of women in planning and decision making and passion and pride with which they accomplish their task successfully. Director S. Jagdish Singh Ji; President Dr. Manmohan Singh Ji presented Siropas and mementos as token of gratitude to the Guest speakers. Principal Dr. Navdeep Kaur presented vote of thanks and also highlighted various programmes which are being run in SSSS College.

 

AN INTERACTIVE SESSION ON ‘IS STARTUP CULTURE A FAD OR TRENDSETTER’

SSSS College of Commerce for Women organized an interactive session titles ‘Is Startup Culture a Fad or Trendsetter’ on March 14, 2019 at Rose Villa hall of the College. Ms. Philomena Joseph, Manager, Counseling and Training and Ms. Farheen Khan, Admission Coordinator, St. Xavier College, Bangalore acted as resource persons. The session started off highlighting striking statistics about huge number of startups in India. The resource persons encouraged the girl students to initiate as an entrepreneur rather than following the instructions of any foreign multinational. She exemplified with the stories of many successful start-ups and urged the students to build their career as a startup. The resource persons indicated that startups are the need of the day and girls should be on trajectory of growth. It was followed by an interactive session where resource person addressed the queries of the students.

 

RECREATIONAL TRIP TO F2 RACEWAY, LUDHIANA

A Recreational trip to F2 Raceway, Ludhiana was organized on March 12 and 13, 2019. Around 200 students from different streams viz B.Com, BBA, BCA and BSc.(Eco.) visited the adventurous amusement park. The students enjoyed the rides and adventure sports at the park. Everyone felt rejuvenated after the excursion.  

 

SWARNIM UMANG – 2019

 An inter college mega fest was organized by Hindu College, Kapurthala on March 15, 2019. Students from M.Com, B.Com, BCA and B.Sc. (Eco) participated in various events viz. Choreography, Business Plan, Debate, Logo Designing and Website Designing. The participants of Choreography won the Consolation prize.

 

CAREER COUNSELLING SEMINAR

A ‘Career Counselling Seminar’ was organized on March 23, 2019 at the Rose Villa Hall of the College. Mr. Rajesh Arora, MD, IBT and Mr. Gagandeep Singh Mann, Relationship Manager, IBT acted as a resource persons. The students of different streams viz. B.Sc (Eco), BBA, BCA and M.Com attended the session. The resource persons explained the eligibility and syllabus for IAS exams. They related the sucess stories of various IAS candidates and also discussed upcoming exam calendar and examination pattern of various government jobs. Furthermore the concept of value addition was explained to the students in very interesting manner by the resource person. The session concluded with a brief self-assessment test specially designed to help students understand their career aptitudes in a clear manner.

 

YOUTH EMPOWERMENT DAY

Youth Empowerment Day was observed in the College on March 23, 2019 by organizing a lecture in ‘Lafani’- the seminar hall of the college. Mrs. Rupinder Kaur, member of faculty was the resource person. Around 90 students attended the lecture wherein the resource person highlighted the significance of this day. A short film based on the true story of a group of youngsters allured into drug addiction was also shown to the students to create awareness regarding drug abuse.

 

 TALK ON RIGHT TO VOTE

A talk on Right to Vote was organized on March 29, 2019 in the Rose Villa Hall of the College. Mr. C.P. Sharma (Block Elementary Education Officer) delivered the talk to make the students aware with respect to their voting rights and also motivated them to cast their precious votes wisely and honestly. Mr. Avtar Singh, Distt. SVEEP Incharge and other team members of the SVEEP demonstrated the working of EVM and VV PAT machine to the students. They also assured the voters about confidentiality and correctness with regard to the working of the machine. Thereafter, Distt. SVEEP Incharge administered the voters pledge to the students and faculty of the college. The SVEEP officers also familiarized the students with ‘Voter Helpline’- A user friendly app that can be used to enroll or make corrections in the voters list. Dr. Navdeep Kaur, Principal, while presents the vote of thanks urged the students to develop consciousness towards their right and duties as citizens of a democratic nation and motivated them to play their role wisely in setting up Government rather than complaining about the malpractices.

 

COMM FEST 2K19

An inter college ‘CommFest2K19’ was organized by the PG Department of Commerce and Business Administration at Khalsa College, Amritsar on March 30, 2019. Students participated in various events viz. Slogan Writing, Poetical Symposium and Rangoli. Harpreet Kaur of BSc. (Eco) Sem VI and Kanish Taan of B.Com Sem II won first prize in Rangoli Contest.

 

MINI MARATHON

District Administration, Amritsar in collaboration with Department of Sports, Punjab organized a Mini Marathon on March 31, 2019 to create awareness regarding the importance of voting. A group of NSS Volunteers and members of staff participate in this event. Medals and certificates were awarded to all the participants.

 

ECONOMIC TIMES QUIZ, 2019

An Economic Times Quiz was organised by the Economic Times at Amritsar College of Engineering and Technologies on April 3, 2019. A Team comprising Amandeep Kaur (M.Com Sem-II) and Mehakdeep Kaur (B.Com Sem-VI) participated in the quiz and bagged third prize carrying a trophy , certificates and a cash prize of Rs.3000/-

 

REGISTRATION CAMP UNDER ‘PRADHAN MANTRI GRAMIN DIGITAL SAKSHARTA’

A one day camp was organized in College on April 5, 2019 under ‘Pradhan Mantri Gramin Digital Saksharta Abhiyan (PMGDISHA)’ scheme of Government of India. The scheme is aimed at empowering citizens of rural areas by imparting the digital training especially regarding digital payments. S.Iqbal Singh, Govt. representative PMGDISHA and his team visited the college. 90 students from rural area were registered under the camp for digital training. 

 

ALUMNI MEETING

For connectivity between the alumni and the college for the mutual growth and goodwill the Alumni Meet was held on April 6, 2019 in the College Library. 19 alumnae of various batches attended the meeting and thanked their alma mater. Speaking on the occasion college Director S. Jagdish Singh Ji proudly applauded simplicity and commitment in approach and need to have the clarity of the destination to be successful in the life. Principal Dr. Navdeep Kaur underlined and praised the commendable achievements of the alumni. The faculty of the College was also present during the meeting.

 

ROLE OF STATISTICS IN RESEARCH

Department of Economics organized a seminar entitled ‘Role of Statistics in Research’ on April 16, 2019. Dr. Baljit Kaur, Assistant Professor, Punjab School of Economics, GNDU, Amritsar, was the resource person. She discussed the entire procedure of conducting a research based study detailing the various steps leading to meaningful conclusion in a concise and systematic manner. She also gave useful tips as to how large set of data can be condensed into meaningful information. While handling the query of the final year students she informed them about the relevant course options available for them at university after completing the three year degree course. Around 90 students of B.Sc (Eco) attended the seminar.

 

SEMINAR ON ‘CAREER IN BANKING INDUSTRY’

A Seminar on ‘Career in Banking Industry’ was organized in the college on April 18, 2019. Ms. Sakshi Tyagi, Sr. Manager, Student Affairs and Corporate Relations, Professional School of Indian Banking (PSIB), Gurgaon was the resource person. She apprised the students regarding career opportunities and work culture in public and private sector banks. She also shared information regarding training programs offered by PSIB, the affordable fee structure and the tie-ups of PSIB with various leading banks. Around 150 students of final year classes attended the seminar. The seminar was highly useful and informative for the students.

 

DIGITAL TRAINING CAMP

A Digital Training Camp was organized in the College on April 7, 2019 for the students from rural areas under the government digital literacy scheme PMGDISHA. S. Iqbal Singh, Project Incharge along with his team visited the College and delivered a talk introducing the scheme to the students. He informed the students regarding the usage and benefits of various apps like DigiLocker, E-Signature, UTS, BHIM, Google pay, Phone Pay. He also made the students aware about other government schemes like Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana(SSY), PMSYM. The team of experts gave hands on lessons to make students familiar with these applications. Thereafter online tests were conducted on April 18, 2019 and April 19, 2019 which qualified the participants for award of certificate under PMGDISHA.

 

SSSSIAN FIESTA

To bid a warm farewell to the outgoing Post graduated and graduate students, SSSSian Fiesta was celebrated at Vidyak Bhavan- the auditorium at the extension campus on April 20, 2019. Exciting games, dances, songs etc. were arranged by the students of first year and second year classes to make the day exciting and memorable for their seniors. The students attired in simple yet graceful traditional as well as modern outfits adorned the stage during the modeling round. S. Jagdish Singh, M. Director appreciated the efforts of students in following the theme of the event in letter and spirit. Dr. Navdeep Kaur, Principal highlighted the importance of stage in a student’s life and asked them to maintain the dignity of this highly respectful platform. Ms. Alka (Assistant Professor, DAV College, Amritsar), Ms. Pooja Chawla (Assistant Professor, Hindu College,Amritsar), Ms. Disha Mohan (Lecturer in Govt. Sen. Sec. School, Amritsar), the judges of the day were honoured by the College authorities as well. Sardarni Swarn Kaur, Dr. Manmohan Singh, President and members of SSSS fraternity of other sister institutions also graced the occasion with their benign presence.

 

SEMINAR ON GOODS AND SERVICES TAX – AN OVERVIEW

A Seminar titled “Goods and Services Tax (GST) – An overview” was organized in the College by the Department of Economics on April 25, 2019. Mrs. Jaskiranjit Kaur, Head, Dept. of Commerce of the College was the resource person. First she told about the inception of GST and elaborated about its various components. The mechanism for implementation of GST at the centre and state level was also discussed in detail. She also highlighted its advantages over previous tax regime. Around 60 students from BSc (Eco.) attended the seminar. The students found this seminar highly informative and obtained clarity regarding practical aspects of GST.

 

STREET PLAY

Cultural Committee of the College organized a street play on the theme ‘Save Water’ on April 26, 2019. The Play was presented by the members of IPTA- MOGA Theatre Group students of Punjab University, Chandigarh. Through their act they raised awareness to preserve the most significant natural resource- water. In their act, keeping in view the careless use of water by the present generation, they assumed the situation of 2025, depicting the problems being faced by administration, individuals and the society as a whole. In the end, members of theatre group urged the students to optimize the water usage to ensure its availability for future generation. Around 142 students attended and enjoyed the play.

 

A SESSION ON BANKING SECTOR AND RECRUITMENTS

A Session on ‘Banking Sector and Recruitments’ was organized in the College by Professional School of Indian Banking (PSIP) on April 27, 2019. Mr. Balwinder Singh, Retd. Bank Manager and an Associate of PSIB acted as resource person. He elaborated on various procedural formalities and terminologies in very simple manner. He also acquainted the students with prospective questions, which could be asked from the candidates during interviews. The resource person further guided the students regarding manner of answering such questions during bank interviews. They found this counseling session highly useful and informative.

 

SPECIAL ASSEMBLY

A special assembly was held on Monday, April 29, 2019 in the Rose Villa Hall to welcome the new students of Junior College. The students recited Gurbani and performed Ardass to seek the blessings of the Supreme soul at the beginning of new session. S. Jagdish Singh M. Director emphasized on the importance of simplicity in one`s life and also asked the students to value the trust of their parents on them. He also shared the details regarding the celebration of Foundation Day of SSSS Institutions.

Dr.  Navdeep Kaur, Principal urged the students to inculcate the spirit of self discipline. She also informs them about the various projects viz. Personal Contact Programme, Moral Education Form and events like Fresher`s Day that would be organized in the coming days.

 

SEMINAR ON ROLE OF TEACHERS

To mark the 125th celebration of foundation day of SSSS Group of Schools and Colleges a seminar was organized on the theme ‘Role of Teacher’ on May 11, 2019 at Lafani. Prof (Dr.) R.S Bawa, the vice- chancellor, Chandigarh University shared his deep insight in the field of education from ancient to Medieval to modern era while reflecting on experiences as a teacher, a researcher and an administrator the resource person emphasized that to be an effective teacher and a facilitator and ultimately to be a ‘Guru’ in reality one has to re-invent the self. He remarked teaching is a cyclic process and hence weed is to ensure that we do justify the role we have to play.

Dr. Manmohan Singh, President, SSSS institutions talked about the teaching: a journey from becoming and teacher to an educator. Dr. Navdeep Kaur, Principal while quoting the poet ‘Surjit Paatr’ the need is to make the own path for reaching the goal.

SSSS FOUNDATION DAY CELEBRATIONS

Sant Singh Sukha Singh Group of Schools and Colleges celebrated its 127th foundation day on May 13, 2019 .The day started by paying obeisance at Sri Darbar Sahib in the wee hours of the morning. A group of 50 members comprising students, teachers and principals and members of the managing committee performed Ardas to express their gratitude for His benedictions to SSSS parivar.

Later on a big congregation was held in the spacious lawns of Modern School at its Mata Kaulan Marg Campus.The students performed shabad kirtan and the toppers in CBSE examination 2019 of Matriculation and Senior Secondary Examinations were awarded prizes.

A special honoring ceremony was held in the Vidyak Bhavan where SSSS Puraskars were awarded to the prominent citizens who have contributed to the well being of the fellow humans through their excellent services.

PRACTICAL TRAINING OF FINACLE CORE BANKING SYSTEM FOR 50 HOURS

A 50 hour Training course was coordinated in College for the students of M.Com sem IV. The Course was designed to impact knowledge about the Bank Software ‘Financle’ and the other required software skills for the job in Banking Sector. This Course was part of the placement drive being organized with the help of Professional School of India Banking, a Gurgaon based placement agency.

 

AN ORIENTATION SESSION FOR THE NEW STUDENTS OF JUNIOR COLLEGE

Dr. Navdeep Kaur , Principal held an orientation session on May 25, 2019 for the students who have joining plus one Commerce and Humanities students for the session 2019-20. In her welcome address she briefed the audience about the history of SSSS institution and showed the highlights of the academic calendar of the new session. She informed them about the various career options one can pursue in the disciplines of Commerce, Economics and Computer Application. Through the PowerPoint presentation the students were made aware about the core areas they can specialize in after completing their graduate in their discipline. She emphasized that the initial years of studies play a significant role in building a successful career in life. The students highly appreciated this initiative by the college authorities to help them develop clarity for taking right decision about their future career.

 

WORLD NO TOBACCO DAY

As per the guidelines issued by the Ministry of Health and Family welfare, the NSS Unit of College organized a special event to mark ‘World No Tobacco Day’ on May 31, 2019. A short movie portraying ill- effects of the tobacco was shown to the students. An Anti-Tobacco pledge was administered to around 60 students of the College as well.

 

FRESHERS’ DAY

Freshers day was celebrated on June 13,2019 to welcome the new students joining us for senior secondary in the streams of commerce and humanities. The cultural committee of the college organized a wonderful program comprising varied art forms viz.

Poetry, songs, dance and theatre.

The participants constituted the new as well as old Students .The highlight of the event was an act based upon the legendary Composition of Guru Nanak-Japji Sahib .S Jagdish Singh, Director welcomed the new entrants to this 126 year old institution and made them aware of its glorious history and achievements. He narrated a few anecdotes to emphasize the significance of Truth in life and motivated them for truthful living always 

Dr. Navdeep Kaur, Principal lauded the efforts of the members of the faculty in organizing the events and the participants for their hard work and dedication. She urged the new students to take active part in all the activities of the college and extended her best wishes to them.

Refreshments were served to all and students clicked pictures with their friends and teachers to make it a memorable part of their college life.

 

INTERNATIONAL YOGA DAY 

International Yoga Day was observed in the college on June 21, 2019. NSS Unit of College organised a special camp early morning to educate the students about the benefits of Yoga for the holistic development of one’s being. The members of the staff and students performed simple Asanas and also practised “Pranayam”. Refreshments were served to all at the conclusion of this 45 minutes camp. All the participants found the exercises very useful and refreshing.
