September 24, 2019  Awareness Rally on NSS Day 

On the occasion of NSS Day, NSS Unit of the College organized a rally on September 24, 2019 along Mall Road to spread awareness amongst public regarding use of cloth bags instead of Poly bags. The rally took a round of Mall road starts from SSSS Chowk. The volunteers carrying the banners with message encouraging the use of cloth bags instead of plastic bags were as successful in gaining public attention. The College authorities appreciated this initiative of the NSS unit with the guidance of Mrs. Savita Khanna and Mrs. Rupinder Kaur, Nodel officers to sensitize the general public regarding environment protection.

September 13, 2019  Documentary on Water Conservation 

A documentary on Conservation of Water named ‘Boond’ was shown to students of M.Com Sem-III to observe Jal Shakti Abhiyaan. The aim was to sensitize the students regarding judicious use of water

September 12, 2019  Discussion on Say No to Plastic 

College organized a discussion session on the subject ‘Say No to Plastic’ to observe Swachhta Pakhwada. 80 students participated in the discussion. They shared their experiences and views regarding use and effects of Plastic. They came up with different ideas to reduce the use of plastic. One of the students suggested the replacement of plastic sheet binding with cardboard binding.

September 5, 2019  Teachers’ Day Celebration 

The NSS unit of the College celebrated the National Teachers’ Day by presenting plants to the faculty members. The students presented saplings as a mark of respect for the honest endeavors the teachers make towards nurturing and educating the young women. Mrs. Savita Khanna, Nodal Officer  and Mrs. Rupinder Kaur co-ordinated the event.

August 29, 2019  Live Telecast of ‘Fit India Movement’

The NSS Unit of the College organized live telecast of ‘FIT INDIA MOVEMENT’. This movement was launched as a part of National Sports Day celebrations at Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium, New Delhi. Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi initiated his speech by paying tribute to Major Dhyan Chand – the great Indian Hockey Player. He appealed every citizen to remain healthy and fit.

August 26, 2019  Seminar on Traffic Rules 

A seminar on ‘Importance of Traffic Rules’ was organized in the College. S. Dilbagh Singh, ADCP Traffic Police, Amritsar and S. Arvinderpal Singh, Incharge Traffic Education cell were the resource persons. They guided and apprised the students with the new traffic rules and penalties in case of their violation. They talked above the key qualities which every student must imbibe to become a responsible citizen and above all a good human being. 85 students of B.Com Sem-I(A) and B.Sc(Eco) Sem-I attended the seminar. Students found the session highly inspiring and informative. The session was conducted by Mrs. Savita Khanna and Mrs. Ravneet Arora.

August 14 and August 16, 2019  Poster Making, Collage Making and Photography 

Poster Making, Collage Making and Photography Competition were organized in the College on the topics ‘Colors of India’ and ‘Unity in Diversity’ as a part of Independence Day celebrations. The below mentioned students were declared the winners from amongst 80 participants:

July 27, 2019  Street Play on Water Conservation  Keeping in the guidelines of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports to observe July 27, 2019 as Jal Shakti Abhiyan, a special Street Play (Nukkadd Natak ) ‘Pani Ajj Udaas Hai’ was staged. The play highlighted the sanctity of this precious natural resource essential for the existence of mankind. The play was successful in pointing out the instances from the daily life of a household when lots of water gets wasted due to negligence. 135 Housewives from the neighbouring localities watched the play and were deeply moved by the powerful performance by the participants for a noble cause.
July 22, 2019  Awareness Camps Regarding Jal Shakti Abhiyan 

In pursuance of the guidelines issued by the Central Government, special sessions were organized in the College to sensitize the students regarding conservation of water.A seminar was conducted by Mrs. Rupinder Kaur, Asst. Prof. in Environment Sciences wherein she shared the data pertaining to ground water level in the state of Punjab and causes which led to this alarming state of affairs.Similar talks were held in all the classes during the second period in the entire College and students were actively engaged in the discussions leading to some very simple and effective remedies to help us conserve water in daily life. On the whole the message to conserve this precious natural resource reached more than 900 students in a very effective manner.

July 2, 2019 Tree Plantation Drive 

NSS Unit of the College organized a Tree Planation activity. NSS Students planted six trees (Neem and Satpati) along the boundary wall of the College Campus.

June 21, 2019  International Yoga Day 

International Yoga Day was observed in the College. NSS Unit of College organized a special camp early morning to educate the students about the benefits of Yoga for the holistic development of one’s being. The members of the staff and students performed simple Asanas and also practised “Pranayam”. Refreshments were served to all at the conclusion of this 45 minutes camp. All the participants found the exercises very useful and refreshing.   

May 31, 2019  World No Tobacco Day 

As per the guidelines issued by the Ministry of Health and Family welfare, the NSS Unit of College organized a special event to mark ‘World No Tobacco Day’. A short movie portraying ill- effects of the tobacco was shown to the students. An Anti-Tobacco pledge was administered to around 60 students of the College as well.

April 26, 2019 Street Play 

Cultural Comittee of the College organized a street play on the theme ‘Save Water’. The Play was presented by the members of IPTA- MOGA Theatre Group students of Punjab University, Chandigarh. Through their act they raised awareness to preserve the most significant natural resource- water. In their act, keeping in view the careless use of water by the present generation, they assumed the situation of 2025, depicting the problems being faced by administration, individuals and the society as a whole. In the end, members of theatre group urged the students to optimize the water usage to ensure its availability for future generation. Around 142 students attended and enjoyed the play.

April 7, 2019 Digital Training Camp

A Digital Training Camp was organized in the College for the students from rural areas under the government’s digital literacy scheme PMGDISHA. S. Iqbal Singh, Project Incharge along with his team visited the College and delivered a talk introducing the scheme to the students. He informed the students regarding the usage and benefits of various apps like DigiLocker, E-Signature, UTS, BHIM, Google pay, Phone Pay. He also made the students aware about other government schemes like Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana(SSY), PMSYM. The team of experts gave hands on lessons to make students familiar with these applications. Thereafter online tests were conducted on April 18, 2019 and April 19, 2019 which qualified the participants for award of certificate under PMGDISHA.

April 5, 2019 Registration Camp Under PMGDISHA

A one day camp was organized in College under ‘Pradhan Mantri Gramin Digital Saksharta Abhiyan (PMGDISHA)’ scheme of Government of India. The scheme is aimed at empowering citizens of rural areas by imparting the digital training especially regarding digital payments. S.Iqbal Singh, Govt. representative PMGDISHA and his team visited the college. 90 students from rural area were registered under the camp for digital training. 

March 31, 2019 Minni Marathon 

District Administration, Amritsar in collaboration with Department of Sports, Punjab organized a Mini Marathon to create awareness regarding the importance of voting. A group of NSS Volunteers and members of staff participate in this event. Medals and certificates were awarded to all the participants.

March 29, 2019 Talk on Right to Vote 

A talk on Right to Vote was organized in the Rose Villa Hall of the College. Mr. C.P. Sharma (Block Elementary Education Officer) delivered the talk to make the students aware with respect to their voting rights and also motivated them to cast their precious votes wisely and honestly. Mr. Avtar Singh, Distt. SVEEP Incharge and other team members of the SVEEP demonstrated the working of EVM and VV PAT machine to the students. They also assured the voters about confidentiality and correctness with regard to the working of the machine. Thereafter, Distt. SVEEP Incharge administered the voters pledge to the students and faculty of the college. The SVEEP officers also familiarized the students with ‘Voter Helpline’- A user friendly app that can be used to enroll or make corrections in the voters list. Dr. Navdeep Kaur, Principal, while presents the vote of thanks urged the students to develop consciousness towards their right and duties as citizens of a democratic nation and motivated them to play their role wisely in setting up Government rather than complaining about the malpractices.

March 23, 2019 Youth Empowerment Day

Youth Empowerment Day was observed in the College by organizing a lecture in ‘Lafani’- the seminar hall of the college. Mrs. Rupinder Kaur, member of faculty was the resource person. Around 90 students attended the lecture wherein the resource person highlighted the significance of this day. A short film based on the true story of a group of youngsters allured into drug addiction was also shown to the students to create awareness regarding drug abuse.

March 7, 2019 District Level Competition Among Red Ribbon Club 

A District Level Competition among Red Ribbon Club was organized by Directorate of Youth Services, Punjab at Khalsa College Amritsar. The contest comprised three events viz. Essay writing, Declamation and Poster Making.

February 23, 2019 Poster Making and Slogan Writing Competition 

‘Sirjana’ Committee of the college organized ‘Poster Making and Slogan Writing Competition’ under Red Ribbon Club. Around 24 students participated in the event and presented their ideas and thoughtful messages through various paintings and captions.

National Voters’ Day Celebration 

National Voter’s Day was celebrated in the college. A special Oath Ceremony was held in the Morning Assembly wherein Campus ambassador Prabhjot Kaur , M.Com Sem IV administered the voter’s pledge to around 300 students and members of the faculty.

Youth Day 

SSSS College of Commerce for Women observed youth day to commemorate the Birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda. A brief performance comprising lectures and poems depicting the life and philosophy of great leader and visionary was presented in the Rose Villa. The programme was anchored by Ms. Ramya, Asst. lecturer and Ms. Sukhpinder, a student of B.Com final year. The thought of Vivekananda on truth, perseverance and patience were well recited by the audience comprising around 250 students for various classes. Dr. Navdeep Kaur, Principal highly lauded the effort of all the participants; The Nodal officer Mrs. Savita Khanna and Ms. Kiran Bala In-charge cultural affairs for putting up an inspirational show for one and all.
