A seven days camp was organized during the winter break by the NSS unit of the college from December 22,2018-December 31,2018. 32 volunteers from amongst the undergraduate and postgraduate degree courses attended the camp along with 5 volunteers from amongst the staff under the guidance of nodal officer Mrs Savita Khanna.
The day wise brief report of the activities is as under :
Day One – Orientation session detailing the participants about the objectives of the scheme was held in the morning followed by a brief about the schedule forthcoming days.
Day Two– A training session on self defence techniques by the experts from the Women Cell of the District Police station.
The participants undertook cleanliness drive in the College campus in the post lunch session.
Day Three-The volunteers participated in community kitchen organized at the extension campus of SSSS at Mata Kaulan Marg.They took part in cooking as well as serving meals to more than 2000 students and parents who came for attending the function to commemorate the Martyrdom of Sahibzadas.
Day Four-A cleanliness rally was organized in Historical Ram Bagh Gardens . The volunteers participated in the clean up drive of the garden area.
They visited Maharaja Ranjeet Singh Panorama and learnt about the glorious history and heritage of the region.
Day Five– A one day trip was organized to Gurdwara Dera Baba Nanak.The students were very happy to visit this shrine and were especially delighted to view the holy place associated with Guru Nanak across the Indo Pak border .
Day Six -A seminar was organized on the theme of girl education- Beti Bachao Beti Padhao.
A short film based on a story written by Munshi Prem Chand on the theme of care of elderly was shown to the students in the post lunch session.
Day Seven – All notice boards of the college were cleaned and updated for the new semester .A few volunteers worked in the library and helped in cleaning and arranging the books.
A special closing function was organized wherein a brief cultural program was presented.The participants presented the report of the previous days by way of a multi media presentation in the presence of the S. Jagdish Singh Member Director and Dr. Navdeep Kaur,Principal of the college.
The highlight of the event was a skit depicting the damages being caused to the planet Earth due to the negligence of the Humans.
Throughout the camp everyday started with meditation and yoga and concluded with an interactive session wherin the participants discussed the issues related to moral and social ethics.
In all the camp had been a very interesting and useful learning experience for one and all.
